A few years ago, Tales of Arise series producer Yusuke Tomizawa confirmed that no DLC was on the way for the game, but that has now fortunately changed. The September 2023 State of Play revealed that an expansion for the 2021 title will be released this year.
The meaty expansion, dubbed Tales of Arise: Beyond the Dawn, is set to release on November 9, 2023 for all platforms. It’ll continue the story of Alphen and Shionne, adding a large amount of new content to the base RPG.
The September State of Play had some great games like Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth and Spider-Man 2, among others, but this announcement took fans of the series by surprise. In addition to the reveal, more juicy details were revealed about it, so here’s everything you need to know.
1. What is Tales of Arise: Beyond the Dawn about?
Tales of Arise: Beyond the Dawn picks up one year after the events of the base game, and it introduces players to a new character called Nazamil. According to the PlayStation blog post, she’s the daughter of a Dahnan and a Renan.
One of her parents is a Lord that players crossed paths with in the base game, but the developers did not yet reveal who it is, keeping it a secret for players to discover in the expansion. The DLC aims to tell the story of what the main party has been up to since the ending and how Nazamil factors into it.
2. Is Beyond the Dawn a standalone expansion?
Tales of Arise: Beyond the Dawn is not a standalone expansion, as players need to have the base game to play it. But those who already own the base game will receive the DLC through a free update.
Not making the DLC standalone is kind of a weird decision when you realize that it’s being released two years after the base game. That said, players will have better immersion if they play the base game first and then the DLC.
3. How long will it take to beat Tales of Arise: Beyond the Dawn?
Tales of Arise: Beyond the Dawn will take “more than 20 hours” to complete according to Yusuke Tomizawa, although he did mention that he “took his time” with it. Since it’s a pretty hefty expansion, it’ll likely take around 10–20 hours to complete.
Beyond the Dawn will not only add new story content to the base game but also “new dungeons, a variety of new quests, and attractive additional costumes”. It is a complete package and an experience in itself that’s bound to immerse and satisfy players.
4. Which platform is Tales of Arise: Beyond the Dawn releasing on?
Tales of Arise: Beyond the Dawn is set to release on November 9 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
This information was revealed during the September 2023 State of Play and in the PlayStation blog post. The game is now available for digital pre-order on all platforms.
5. How much does Tales of Arise: Beyond the Dawn cost?
The meaty Beyond the Dawn expansion costs $30. A bundle is also available for purchase, which contains both the base game and the expansion, and it costs $60.
The price can seem a bit high at first, but when you look at the amount of content that’s being added to the game, it doesn’t look too bad. It’s essentially a whole new game with an epic new story and some new additions.
That’s all you need to know about the upcoming expansion. If you want to dive deeper into what was shown during the State of Play event, head to the PlayStation Blog for all the details and developer insights.
