Rang’s worries about his older brother’s feelings land him in trouble, but what better way to prove your feelings than to save your idiot brother from a surefire death? 1. Episode 9 Synopsis/Speculation
In the next episode of Tale of the Nine-Tailed 1938, Lee Yeon faces a tough decision. The eclipse is in less than a week, and his only chance to return to his time. If he stays and tries to resolve the multiple problems while spending more time with his brother, he might miss his chance to return to Nam Ji-ah.
The number of problems the hunter-fox has to deal with is numerous. Not only does he feel the need to protect Hong-joo and Eun-ho, but he also wants to spend time with his brother and try to patch things up with Moo-young. Not to forget, stop the latter from raising his dead brother and the Korean police from making the dangerous soldier, while also retrieving the guardian stone for which he came to the past.
Only four more episodes are left, and this week’s episodes have set the stakes high for the final two weeks of Tale of the Nine-Tailed 1938. Kato has the spirits he needs to create his supernatural army and win against the Japanese.
As Moo-young learns, the golden ruler is the last thing he needs to bring his brother back. One of the gods tells Hong-joo that Yeon possesses the treasure. Will Hong-joo choose Moo-young’s side or Yeon’s? Will Moo-young raise his brother, or will Yeon stop him in time?
Oh, and one more theory though this is far-fetched. I know we see Moo-young’s brother’s spirit, but what if it’s a spirit pretending to be his brother, luring him to free him and waiting for a chance to wreak havoc on the past? We’ve already seen the Jangsan tiger’s mimicry; could it be something like that?

5. Episode 8 Recap
Hong-joo has the boys making Kimchi but Rang can’t forget Moo-young’s story about his eventual death and Yeon’s manipulative part in it. We, of course, know how it went down, but Rang will find out soon enough. Taluipa sends the Jongsen’s indigenous Gods towards Yeon and Hong-joo’s way for them to resolve the group’s individual problems.
The younger Lee brother’s abandonment issues flare up even further when he visits Yeo-hee’s bar and leaves in the middle of her performance. She catches up with him and tells him to face his fears instead of hiding behind his loneliness.
Perhaps Yeo-hee’s determination to marry him and his fated death pushes him to bet his lifespan in the game with the goblin who was playing the other indigenous Gods. He loses the bet and would have died that day, but Yeon comes to save the day and his brother.
Yeon plays the goblin, catches his cheating tricks, and exposes him. The goblin resolves to play without foul methods, and Yeon scores his own lifespan and his brother’s, as well as the years of the other Gods.
General Ryuhei Kato hires the Shinigami Mercenaries to capture and kill the indigenous Gods for his experiments and exposes Eun-ho. Moo-young contacts his brother’s spirit and finds he needs the golden ruler to bring him back.
The next day, after Yeo-hee scolds him for his risky adventure, Rang asks how much truth is in the story of his death. Yeon shows him the video his brother had recorded prior to sacrificing himself, clearing the air between the two. Later that night, they find the corpses of the Gods, wondering what happened to them. Yeon must decide whether to stay and solve the mystery or return to his time.
