Sylvester Stallone has revealed a poster for Rocky IV’s director’s cut. The actor/director took to Instagram to share the new poster and also revealed that the premiere would take place in Philadelphia, Rocky’s home city.
Stallone announced last July that he was working on a director’s cut of Rocky IV. The film is titled Rocky vs. Drago- The Ultimate Director’s Cut.
The Post’s caption reads, “ROCKY VS DRAGO !!!! Coming pretty soon. It will Premier in Philly which is going to be fantastic!”
The first Rocky film and its five sequels follow the boxing career of Rocky Balboa, one of Stallone’s most popular characters to date.
The first Rocky film came out in 1976 and won three Oscars in 1977. Rocky IV is considered to be one of the stronger sequels because of the feud between Rocky Balboa and Ivan Drago.
The new cut will eliminate some of the film’s sillier moments, such as Paulie’s robot, while adding back deleted scenes like extra footage of Apollo and Drago’s fight.
Throughout the past year, Stallone has kept fans updated on his editing process and often shared behind-the-scenes clips on his Instagram.
The Hollywood Reporter reported in April that Stallone won’t be returning for Creed III. Stallone had a crucial role in Creed and Creed II, the Rocky spin-offs starring Michael B. Jordon. The film is currently in development and will also be Jordan’s directorial debut.
It’s still uncertain on which streaming service the new cut would make its debut. Even though Amazon recently purchased MGM, the franchise films are currently available on HBO Max due to prior distribution deals.
Rocky IV was initially released in 1985. Stallone hasn’t revealed a release date for the premiere yet.
