You better watch out, you better not cry, you better not pout, we’re telling you why — The Expendables’ spin off movie, Christmas Story is coming to town!
Our news is delivered straight from Sylvester Stallone, the franchise’s leading face on camera and writer, off. His latest Instagram post shows a hyper realistic tattoo of his character Barney Ross on an unnamed person’s arm.
After commenting on how the detailed tattoo would’ve had to hurt (some dedication, ha?), Stallone announces that filming for a spinoff of The Expendables was to begin in coming October. The working title for now is “Christmas Story.”
Of course, this is not really a holiday themed movie (unless they decide to bank on the pun), but rather a hint to Jason Statham’s character, Lee Christmas.
Now, a Lee Christmas spin-off has been in the works for a while, alongside that of Expendables 4. The latter was also confirmed to be going into production this fall. In fact, not a long time ago, Stallone had also posted about a ring designed for Expendables 4 on his Instagram. So, we’re a little confused about whether the two mentioned projects are different or not. Time will tell.
The Expendables started off in 2010 as a nostalgic callback to the action stars of the 80s and 90s, an ensemble cast that played military mercenaries. No mission was too high a risk for them, and the success of the first film’s thrill and action resulted in the franchise having two sequels in 2012, and 2014 respectively.
Over the course of the three movies, the franchise has been blessed to have a cast boasting of the likes of Jet Li, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Bruce Willis, Chuck Norris, Harrison Ford and many, many more.
Diehard fans have been waiting years, seven to be precise, to have another epic Expendables ensemble on their screens. All of Stallone’s social media posts point to it swiftly moving in that direction. For more updates, we’d keep an eye out on the ‘gram for sure!
