Sword Art Online Season 4 Release Date, New Wallpaper

Over the past few months, most of the world has been put on lockdown due to the COVID 19 pandemic. First large social gatherings were prohibited, and now only essential places are open to flatten the curve.

The world of anime and manga is no exception; workplaces of many production houses are being shut down, causing delays in many release schedules.

@sao_anime, the official twitter for Sword Art Online’s anime, tweeted out a wallpaper for people to use during online calls. While this may not be an essential commodity for survival, it is something that they hope will help people release stress in these uncertain times.

A recent live stream, which featured author Reki Kawahara, light novel editor Kazuma Miki, anime producer at Aniplex Masami Niwa, a producer at Bandai Namco Entertainment Yousuke Futami, and MC’d by Tekeon from Dengeki Online, gave updates on the progression of SAO’s current season.

The second cour of the War of Underworld was supposed to be released in April but was delayed due to production issues caused by COVID-19. Its new release timeframe is near July.

However, the live stream revealed that despite the current quarantine, everyone involved in the second cour is working as best as they can even from their own homes.

The anime team behind the Sword Art Online Alicization War of Underworld is still creating the storyboards, scripts, and animation through telework to make the summer release as grand as possible.

About Sword Art Online:

At the launch of the game, 10,000 people had connected themselves to the virtual reality of Sword Art Online. The plot takes a twist when people realize that they can’t quit the game.

Protagonist Kirito, who is a pro gamer and was present for the beta launch of SAO, starts planning to clear levels as soon as possible. Throughout his quest to finish the game, he meets many friends and also a love interest, Asuna.

The plot and the whole premise of the show are remarkably unique and quite believable in some futuristic sense.
