The Sword Art Online Alicization War Of Underworld season has finally reached the season’s finale, and fans are experiencing a bitter-sweet moment right about now.
The third season of SAO’s Alicization arc was the longest in the series thus far as its story spanned over four parts and took several years to complete.
Sword Art Online’s anime franchise will be continuing the series with the upcoming alternative version “Sword Art Online: Progressive.”
We may get a Season 5 in the distant future, but for now, Episode 23 of the latest series will act as the finale for the entire Sword Art Online series.

1. Season 5 Release Date
The details for Season 5, Episode 1, haven’t been announced yet.
However, the franchise recently announced a spin-off anime series, titled, “Sword Art Online: Progressive.”
2. Season 5 Preview & Speculation
The currently existing light novel has been fully adapted and completed with the Sword Art Online Alicization War of Underworld series.
However, A-1 Pictures director Manabu Ono has said that the studio plans to adapt the entire Sword Art Online series, leading us to believe that if there is a sequel to the original light-novel, then we may be in for a Season 5!
3. Recap of the Season’s Finale (Episode 23)
I. Alice and Kazuto
Kazuto gets a call from Rinko that Alice is missing. Just as Kazuto decides to take action, a large package is delivered to him, and to his surprise, he finds Alice inside.
After Alice is out of the box, dressed and fully charged, she explains how furious she is with Kazuto for recklessly staying behind in the Underworld.
After consoling Alice, Kazuto informs Rinko that Alice is safe and sound in his house.
Then, Kazuto shows Alice his family’s dojo where the two have a “friendly” sparring match to the point where they end up breaking their shinais.
Towards the evening, Kazuto’s family throws a celebratory dinner for him for exiting the hospital and getting his full health back.
During the commemorative meal, Kazuto’s father conveyed his concern about the recent events that Kazuto was involved in and revealed its impact on his family, to which Kazuto responds with a heartfelt apology.
II. What happened to the Underworld?
Later on in the episode, we see that Alice has snuck into Kazuto’s room in the middle of the night to discuss the mysterious email she had received.
The two characters then realized that the secret message was an I.P address and a means to connect to the Underworld.
An interesting fact about this I.P address 52.68.96.58 mentioned in the episode, is that if you try visiting it, it will direct you to an unexpected little S.A.O surprise!
Then, the terrific trio, Alice, Kazuto, and Asuna, swiftly head to Rath to test if their theory stands true.
They log in and suddenly find themselves in outer space where they see the planet Cardinal.
Soon after, they come across two spacecrafts, maneuvered by Ronye and Tiese’s descendants, as the two were being chased by a giant and mystical-looking space monster known as the Abyssal Horror.
Having suffered enormous damage, the pilots plan to go down fighting before Kirito, Asuna and Alice come to their rescue and annihilate the monster.
After watching their intense battle in sheer amazement, the two Integrity Pilots recognize that their saviors were the Star King, Star Queen, and Integrity Knight Alice, accompanied by a brief yet a bright glimmer of Eugeo.
Teary-eyed but still filled with joy, the two pilots express delight to have met the Underworld’s fabled heroes and then fly back to Cardinal as the three heroes return to their world.

Sword Art Online is a Japanese light novel series written by Reki Kawahara and illustrated by Abec.
The series occurs in the near future and focuses on the protagonist “Kirito” Kirigaya Kazuto and Asuna Yuuki as they play through various virtual reality MMORPG worlds.
Sword Art Online aired in Japan between July and December 2012, followed by its second and third season and a movie, titled Sword Art Online the Movie: Ordinal Scale.
Sword Art Online III Season 3 is the second part of Sword Art Online: Alicization – War of Underworld.
