Suzume continues to hit milestone after milestone since its release last year. Not only it is standing strong in the top 10 highest-grossing films every week but has also become one of the highest-grossing films of all time.
As of Sunday, which marks the movie’s tenth weekend, it has earned 12.49 billion yen (US $ 97.13 million) by selling 9.4 million tickets. It continues to stand at #2 in the weekly top 10 list.
Suzume is now the 25th highest-grossing film of all time in Japan. It had previously surpassed Studio Ghibli’s The Wind Rises and became the 10th highest-grossing anime film of all time in Japan.
Makoto Shinkai wrote and directed this film, with CoMix Wave Films as the producing studio. Shinkai’s two other films, Your Name and Weathering With You are also among the top 10 anime films of all time.
Nanoka Hara and Hokuto Matsumura (from the band SixTONES) have voiced the protagonists Suzume Iwato and Sota Munakata. Masayoshi Tanaka designed the characters of the film, with music composed by Radwimps.
About Suzume no Tojimari
Suzume no Tojimari is an anime film by Makoto Shinkai. It premiered on November 11, 2022. A novel adaptation was released in August 2022, also written by Shinkai.
The film focuses on Suzume, a 17-year-old girl who meets a young man looking for a door. Suzume finds a strange door among the ruins and opens it, but due to it many doors start opening around Japan, causing disasters. Now, Suzume has to close all of them to save Japan.
