Superman Vs. Food is here to give us a glimpse into what truly fuels the son of Krypton, other than that big ball of fire in the sky.
American superheroes take a lot from anime & manga, especially DC, which has produced heroes such as Batman and Superman and equally sinister villains like Joker and Riddler.
Though there has been a fair share of collabs that feature these characters and Japanese culture, what is about to come next will elevate your taste buds.
Kodansha and DC announced a new collaboration manga, titled “ Superman VS. Food – Superman’s Solo Dining,” and the manga is set to debut on 22nd June 2021. The manga will be featured in the 14th issue of Kodansha’s Evening Magazine.
The visual features Superman holding chopsticks and a bowl of rice. The manga is written by Satoshi Miyakawa, while Kai Kitagō does the art.
The story revolves around the daily pastime of Superman, who can hear the growling of stomachs throughout Japan at lunchtime.
A special DC exhibition will be held at the Tokyo City View in Roppongi, Tokyo, from June 25, 2021, to commemorate the manga’s launch.
The manga is part of the second phase of DC Comics’ and Kodansha collaboration.
In addition, the collaboration also includes the Batman Justice Buster manga launched by Eiichi Shimizu and Tomohiro Shimoguchi in the Kodansha morning magazine.
The first phase of the collaboration resulted in the Wanope Joker manga, which started serialization early this year in January.
Coming back to the Superman gourmet manga, it is a nod to Masayuki Kusumi and Jiro Taniguchi’s The Solitary Gourmet manga. Which follows a solitary salaryman as he travels all over Japan and samples the local cuisine found on street corners.
It will be pretty interesting to see how the world’s strongest man spends his free time admiring food.
