AMD Radeon RX 6000 series is specially designed to deliver stellar visuals and efficient gaming performance. The flagship graphics card RX 6900 XT was called equivalent to NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 3090. However, this recent news brings an intriguing issue to our attention.
A German YouTuber, KrisFX, who also runs a professional graphics card repair service recently revealed that he received 48 AMD Radeon RX 6000/6800 cards with an unrepairable defect.
These 48 cards arrived within the span of three weeks only. Those card owners answered a survey regarding their usage, but nothing out of the ordinary was discovered except the choice of drivers used.
Every card was acting on the same driver, which is the driver released in early December for the Radeon RX 6000 series. Post this update, AMD has resorted to only releasing drivers for Radeon RX 7900 GPUs exclusively.
It is wrong to fully blame the GPU driver for the fault since the vast majority of users remain unaffected. Upon further inspection, it can be seen that the graphics card’s GPU has visibly cracked which cannot be caused by a faulty driver.
This is indeed a mysterious issue, and there has been no information from AMD’s side either. Hopefully, AMD addresses this matter soon enough since the Radeon RX 6000 series is a popular choice with the community.
