Succession Season 3 Episode 7 Speculation
While the candidate for the next President has been picked, it’s unclear whether this will be the best choice for the Roys considering the DOJ investigation. Mencken was a rogue choice, but his arrogant manner seems to have worked in his favor so far. Shiv makes it clear that she doesn’t support this choice.
Kendall seems to be more focused on his upcoming 40th birthday party than strengthening his position for the ongoing DOJ investigation. With Lisa no longer at his side, he will have to come up with more leverage in addition to a new legal team. Will Tom change his mind about siding with Kendall? Find out in the next episode.

Succession Season 3 Episode 6 Recap
The Roys are in Virginia to attend an elite political summit. The aim is to review the current eligible candidates for President and see who is going to be the most beneficial for them to provide their support to i.e ‘picking the next president.’ The primary strategy is to find a candidate who will fire the current DOJ or get them to show extreme leniency so the Roys can avoid jail time.
Tom, who is definitely going to jail as he offered himself up as a scapegoat, continues to grapple with the idea of going to prison. He obsesses over the details and tells Greg he hasn’t slept properly in over eight days.
Greg, who is also obsessing over the idea of Kendall burning him because he switched sides, asks Tom if he would be willing to take the heat for Greg’s involvement in the corporate cover up of the crimes in the cruise division. Tom agrees and Greg is touched by the gesture.
Kendall gets coached by his lawyer for his upcoming interview with the DOJ. He doesn’t take it seriously enough and ends up bombing the interview.
When Lisa points out how his behavior is damaging his case, along with the papers not being ‘explosive enough’ he ends up firing her, calling her a ‘toxic person.’ With his case against his father weakening, he tries to turn Tom, who initially wavers saying he’ll think about it but ultimately declines.
The Roys discuss the candidates in Logan’s suite. The VP is the safest bet and at one point they even consider Connor as a candidate. Shiv and Roman butt heads regarding the candidate they should support.
Ultimately, they decide on the candidate Roman put forth, Jeryd Mencken. Shiv tries to warn Logan that this would be a dangerous move considering the current political climate. Logan dismisses her concern by saying he’s a climate denier.
