Succession Season 3 Episode 5 Recap
It’s finally the day of the annual Waystar shareholders’ meeting. Kendall receives a call from Frank asking if he’ll serve as a back channel between Waystar and Sandy and Stewy. Since he needs his family to retain control over the company, he agrees. The aim is to arrive at a settlement so they can avoid a public vote.
However, Logan is still against cooperating completely so he sends Gerri, Shiv and Roman to meet with Sandy and Stewy to discuss the terms of the settlement. Sandy’s daughter, who is speaking on behalf of her father, tells them their two conditions – the first, that their costs are covered and the second being veto rights over any Roy family member taking over as CEO. Logan agrees to the first condition but refuses the second one. They take a break from talks but mutually agree to their lawyers continuing to work out the terms of the deal.
Logan seems to get more aggravated throughout the episode and at one point tells them the deal is off. When it is apparent that Logan isn’t in his right senses, his assistant tells Shiv that he’s suffering from a UTI and needs to take his medication regularly. They immediately realize that they need to reopen discussions for the deal because Logan wasn’t in a lucid state when he made his previous declaration.
While Roman receives the president’s call on behalf of his father, Shiv reopens negotiations with Sandy’s daughter and throws in a seat on the board for each of them as part of the deal.
The president informed Roman that he will no longer be running for another term, which could be detrimental for the Roys considering the ongoing DOJ investigation.
