On Thursday, TOHO’s official YouTube channel began streaming the full-length trailer for Studio Chizu’s upcoming film Belle: The Princess of Dragons and Freckles. The film will premiere in July 2021.
The trailer constantly swings between ordinary life on Earth and luxurious life on Suzu’s newly found online world called “U”. Be it Earth or “U”, Suzu’s love for music remains constant throughout the trailer.
In the very next scene, a dragon-like creature is seen protecting Suzu from an army of extra-terrestrial soldiers. I think it shows us how something as tempting as fame can be toxic at certain times.
It seems that the film will be a perfect blend of Japanese and Western elements. The staff unveiled character designs of the title character Belle by Jin Kim (Frozen, Tangled).
Moreover, Eric Wong, a London-based architect and designer, is taking care of the concept artwork for the film’s online world, U.
The studio is also collaborating with Tomm Moore & Ross Stewart of CartoonSaloon to assist them in world-building.
You know that the studio is aiming for something EPIC when Mamoru Hosada, the man behind the virtual worlds in Summer Wars and Digimon Adventures, is relying on European artists for perfection.
