In terms of strength, Mandalorians are second only to the Jedi and Sith. They’re exceptional fighters, strategists, and weapon developers. Some like Jango and Boba are outright legends and have proved time and time again that the Mandalorians are a force to be reckoned with. But if you’ve ever wondered how these Mandalorians rank among each other in terms of skill and prowess, I’m here to answer those questions for you.
I’ve spent quite a while these last couple of days comparing and fine-tuning this list. I’ve revisited some of the movies and discussed one-on-one battles on Reddit. The outcome, I must say, has left me very proud.
However, before we start, please keep in mind that this list only includes Star Wars Canon and doesn’t talk about the Legends. I’ve also tried to stick to characters that we have actively seen on-screen to help avoid ambiguity. Besides, who knows? Maybe I’ll make a second list someday.
9 The Armorer
The mysterious leader of The Tribe isn’t just a forger; she’s also skilled at melee combat. We’ve seen her single-handedly take down an entire group of stormtroopers with only a tong and a hammer—and that’s no easy job, kids.
While part of her charm is her secret identity, The Armorer has also proved to be a strong fighter. Sadly, not much is known about her and her skills, so she sits at the beginning of this list. She may or may not move up in the future, but it depends on what we see of her.
8 Ketsu Onyo
Ketsu was a bounty hunter employed by Black Sun before the Battle of Yavin. She was also in possession of a staff that was both a blaster and a melee weapon and was said to be skilled in both close-range combat as well as blasters.
Ketsu also proved her intellect by capturing Hondo Ohnaka—the notorious pirate and outlaw operating throughout the galaxy. In addition, she was a pilot who owned an armed starship called the Shadow Caster and was capable of taking on other similar-sized ships.
7 Bo-Katan Kryze
A warrior through and through, Bo-Katan was a formidable fighter with and without weapons. She was a former Death Star lieutenant who later went on to become The Mand’alor, and was able to stand her ground against force-users like Ahsoka.
“I wish I was good at something other than war.”
Bo-Katan Kryze to Ahsoka Tano
During a rescue mission of Obi-Wan Kenobi, Bo-Katan defeated multiple Mandalorians unassisted. She used their own weapons against them and displayed skills like none other.
6 Pre Vizsla
Pre was the leader of the Death Watch who once took on the likes of the Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi and the Sith Lord Darth Maul. He was also a skilled sharpshooter and excelled in hand-to-hand combat. Being a Mandalorian, Pre had received advanced training in many forms of combat early on in his childhood.
Apart from this, he also had experience with sabers and was one of the few who would wield the Darksaber—the weapon of The Mand’alor.
Even though Darth Maul eventually defeated Pre Vizsla, there’s little doubt that Pre was a powerful Mandalorian and could hold his ground among some of the strongest.
5 Tarre Vizsla
Tarre Vizsla was the first—and for now, the ONLY Mandalorian to have been initiated into the Jedi Order, which means that unlike the rest of his brethren, Tarre was a force-sensitive being who possessed the training of a Mandalorian. If that’s not made you into a jittering mess of excitement, I don’t know what will.
Tarre was also the creator of the legendary Darksaber. A weapon that would go on to become the symbol of The Mand’alor: leader of the Mandalorians.
I’d initially planned on letting Tarre sit this one out, given that he doesn’t make a direct appearance in the Canon content (minus the appearance of his statue in Star Wars Rebels). But his legacy is too powerful to ignore when you’re talking about the strongest Mandalorians—and I’m not going to be the one who dares disrespect him like that.
4 Din Djarin
Djarin is a fierce fighter, thanks to his Mandalorian upbringing. He’s also an expert marksman and sniper. But his real skills lie in his intellect and quick-thinking amidst the heat of a battle—an ability that has allowed him to singlehandedly kill the Krayt Dragon.
You shouldn’t undermine him in close-range combat though; Djarin defeated Moff Gideon in a duel and laid claim over the Darksaber, and is the current known owner of the weapon.
Many argue that most of Din’s strength is in his advanced weapons and that without his arsenal, he wouldn’t stand a chance against the most powerful of the Mandalorians. While partially true (he is indeed quite dependent on his weapons), Din has unmatched perseverance and is smarter than some of the smartest fighters—which gives him an unrivaled advantage in a fight. He’s also a bounty hunter, contributing to his exceptional fighting prowess.
Besides, he has a mini Yoda. That’s got to count for something.
3 Sabine Wren
Sabine was one of the leaders of the rebellion led against the Galactic Empire. She was an acrobatic fighter skilled in weaponry, demolitions, and multiple forms of combat.
She’s said to be an unrivaled prodigy and has built some of the strongest weapons in galactic history—including the Arc Pulse Generator, a weapon that can vaporize anyone wearing the Mandalorian armor.
Wren is also capable of creating her own explosives. Her work is not only practical but also carries her signature artsy aura. Having trained as a munitions engineer, Sabine is also known to tinker with classic weapons to give them enhancements, like increasing the efficiency of her WESTAR-35 blaster pistols.
In a fight amongst the best, Sabine would not only be skilled enough to hold her ground, but she’d also give many fighters a run for their money.
2 Jango Fett
Jango was a force to fear, and no one has ever failed to acknowledge that. Even the Dark Lords of Sith acknowledge his power, which was proved when Darth Tyranus hired him to be the genetic blueprint for an entire army of clones to serve The Empire. Jango was said to have been strong enough to kill Jedi with his bare hands.
he might also be one of the very few to have dueled Master Kenobi and drawn, indicating that despite being non-sensitive to Force, his power rivals the Jedi Masters. Fett was primarily a bounty hunter—a renowned one, actually—but also served as a mercenary.
1 Boba Fett
Boba Fett is the strongest Mandalorian in Star Wars Canon. Son of legendary Jango Fett, Boba surpassed his father on many levels. He’s the most revered bounty hunter in the galaxy and is said to have never lost.
“The only time I fail is if you hired me to fail.”
Boba Fett
From a very young age, Boba could handle deadly blasters and heavy weapons rather effortlessly. After his father’s death, Boba took on his mantel and became a bounty hunter. His name sent strong men rushing through the exit because if Fett was after you, it was only a matter of ‘when.’
Boba was contracted by both The Empire and the criminal underworld on multiple occasions. One such instance was when The Empire sent him after Han Solo, and Boba actually managed to capture the notorious rogue smuggler—something that had never been done before.
He wasn’t just a skilled fighter; Boba was also a shrewd strategist who mixed tactics and brute force to win the mission. And hence, wins the top slot in this list!
