Strongest Hunter x Hunter Characters (Alive), Ranked

With Togashi gracing us with new manga chapters, the world of Hunter x Hunter has grown twofold in terms of strength, emotion, and story.

This calls for a new list of strongest characters currently alive in the manga. Since a lot of characters don’t currently have many feats, I’m going to be ranking them based on what the narrative and other characters have hinted at about their Nen and overall prowess.

I won’t be including characters like Don Freecss and Zigg Zoldyck since we know nothing about their power or status.

I will be ranking the characters based on their amount of aura, their Nen proficiency, physical strength, experience, and combat ability.

Tserriednich is one of the new characters that has caused a lot of hype in the HxH world. He’s the Fourth Prince of the Kakin Empire and a Nen prodigy.

He has a large amount of aura which Tser learned to control in a day to pin down the basics of Gyo. He summoned a Guardian Nen Spirit Beast without even knowing.

His precognitive Parallel Future ability lets him see 10 seconds into the future, but unfortunately, he doesn’t have the physical prowess to dodge or change the course of action. Enhancers like Gon could beat him easy, so can large-scale attackers like Morel and Razor.

It is inevitable that Tserriednich will move up in rank pretty soon.

19. Killua Zoldyck

Killua has come a long way. He was trained since birth to be a human weapon, but he developed his innate and learned skills enough to fight toe-to-toe with Menthuthuyoupi, one of the former strongest characters in the series.

Godspeed Killua is peak Killua, where he transcends his physical abilities. He can manipulate electricity and becomes faster than lightning.

18. Kurapika

Kurapika is a dual Nen-type user because he possesses Scarlet Eyes which make him a Specialist when activated. He’s also a Blacklist Hunter and the current leader of the Nostrage Crime Family, along with being a Zodiac.

Kurapika in ET mode has master Enhancer stats with his Zetsu chain work and his Judgment Chain gets an insane aura boost with ET.

He was strong enough to kill Uvogin, one of the strongest members of the Phantom Troupe. And smart enough to completely turn the tides of Succession War battle in his favor.

17. Biscuit Krueger

Bisky aka Biscuit Krueger is a Double-Star Stone Hunter with enhanced strength, perception, speed, and reflexes. Her cute little girl body is a terrific disguise for the 57-year-old behemoth that is her real self.

She’s the one who taught Gon, Killua, and Wing how to use Nen and was the only one to emerge completely uninjured from Razor’s dodgeball match in Greed Island.

Bisky possesses mastery over all advanced Nen techniques and can combine several of them effortlessly.

16. Phinks

Phinks is now the number one physically strongest member in the Phantom Troupe after Uvogin’s death. He is a great hand-to-hand combatant, with vast martial arts skills.

He’s also proficient at Zetsu, Ren, Ko, and Hatsu. His Nen ability allows him to generate power by rotating his arm – the power was enough to destroy a Chimera Ant with a single punch.

15. Razor

Razor, one of Greed Island’s Game Masters and founders, served as the final boss of the Plot of Beach quest, and is a lethal contender to deal with, even for Phantom Troupe members.

He is one of Ging’s disciples, so naturally his Nen abilities and combat prowess are superb. His mere presence is enough to scare several convicts proficient in Nen into remaining in line. He literally has balls of aura – powerful as steel – that can crush your head casually.

14. Illumi Zoldyck

Eldest child of Silva Zoldyk and current member of the Phantom Troupe, Illumi is almost as strong as Hisoka, although we haven’t seen too much of his power.

Illumi can manipulate the minds and bodies of the living as well as the dead. His choice of weapons are 3 sets of needles that can be imbued with Nen. The first set allows him to alter appearances, the second lets him brainwash enemies when implanted in their head, and the third permits Illumi to control and manipulate targets.

He can also make Needle puppets and control corpses.

13. Morel and Nobunaga

Morel has gotta be one of the coolest guys out there. He uses his smoking pipe to channel his Nen and also uses it as a weapon.

He can increase his muscles and enhance his own strength. Efficient fighters like Knuckle and Shoot are his pupils. Knuckle mentioned that Morel’s aura pool was only second to Youpi, and was 3 times larger than Gon’s. He was able to successfully fight against Pouf and Youpi and also survived a lethal attack.

Nobunaga is the number one member of the Phantom Troupe. Killua compared his strength to that of Hisoka. He’s a skilled swordsman and whoever enters his attack zone is as good as dead meat.

He also has a powerful aura, enough to scare Gon, Killua, and Leorio, but his Nen ability is yet to be seen.

12. Marione

Marione is the strongest among the Elite Temp Hunters chosen by Beyond Netero for his Dark Continent expedition.

Not much is known about her powers, but Ging implied that her Nen might be stronger than even Pariston, a former Zodiac.

11. Botobai and Mizaistom and Kanzai

Botobai (Dragon), Mizaistom (Ox), and Kanzai (Tiger) are all incredibly strong members of the Zodiac. Botobai and Kanzai are part of the Defense Team for Dark Continent voyage, while Mizaistorm is in the Intelligence Team.

Botobai might be slightly stronger than the other 2, being a Triple-Star Terrorist Hunter; his authority in the Hunter Association is inferior only to that of Cheadle.

Mizaistom is a Double-Star Hunter whose intelligence is unmatched. He is one of the 3 people apart from Cheadle and Kurapika to realize there must be a mole among the Zodiacs.

Kanzai is a Treasure Hunter who served as a sparring partner for Netero himself. He might not be that smart but he’s obvious a tremendous fighter.

10. Beyond Netero

I’ve put Beyond right in the middle of my list because we don’t know anything about his abilities. I mean, sure, he’s Issac Netero’s kid, so he’s gotta be a dynamite. He is currently the leader of the Dark Continent Expedition and in charge of several strong Hunters.

Beyond is extremely clever, able to manipulate the world leaders into endorsing his project. He’s survived the Dark Continent, so he must have tremendous Nen abilities.

9. Feitan Portor

Feitan is the fifth-strongest member of the Phantom Troupe and the de facto leader after Chrollo Lucilfer.

He has incredible strength and stamina, but his speed is what sets him apart from the other Phantoms. He’s also a master swordman, being able to parry Zazan’s attacks with ease.

With Rising Sun, Feitan is able to transmute his aura into a mini-sun. The heat causes large-scale destruction and would have killed all the other Troupe members had they stayed until he fully activated it.

8. Hisoka Morow

Former member of the Phantom Troupe, Hisoka is a Hunter who is forever looking for strong challengers – although he is currently hiding from a bunch of people in the manga.

He calls himself the Magician, and brandishes multiple lethal tricks with his Nen-infused playing cards. These cards are sharp enough to slice bone.

Hisoka has shown proficiency in Conjuration, Emission, Enhancement, and on occasion, Manipulation, which he used with post-mortem Nen for an enhanced Bungee Gum attack. Actually, Hisoka might even be stronger than Silva due to his post-Mortem Nen.

7. Silva Zoldyck

Silva Zoldyck is the current head of the uber powerful Zoldyk family and has a superhuman control over his body due to years spent training as an assassin.

He has enhanced durability and can resist Chrollo’s poison attacks. Silva’s Explosive Orbs are basically 2 active bombs that he can hurl that can level buildings.

These orbs fall under the Emission and Transmutation typing; in addition, Silva also has control over Enhancement, which is seen when he kills Cheetu from the Phantom Troupe.

6. Zeno Zoldyck

Zeno is the father of Silva and grandfather of Killua. He is a Nen master, being able to push Chrollo Lucilfer, the leader of the Phantom Troupe, to his full strength. Even Pitou, Mereum’s strongest fighter, was excited to fight someone with that kind of Nen.

Zeno can transmute his aura into a dragon, emit it as a projectile, or simply use it for transport. He can also control this dragon with his hands, without having to emit his aura, which means he’s proficient at Transmutation as well as Emission.

5. Chrollo Lucilfer

Chrollo Lucilfer is the boss of the Phantom Troup and a proven monster in battle. He fought Zeno and Silva together, trying to steal their Nen from them while trying to defeat them.

Chrollo’s fighting style is adaptable and combines strategy, Nen, flawless Zetsu, and speed with deadly precision. He can utilize numerous Nen abilities together, mimicking the proficiency of his opponents.

Recently, its implied through his knowledge of Sun and Moon in chapter 352 that he has knowledge about post-mortem Nen, which he’s sure to apply in combat soon.

4. Ging Freecss

Isaac Netero called Ging one of the 5 best Nen users in the world. Ging has always been famous for his power but we’ve yet to see all of it in action.

He is a Double-Star Ruins Hunter and can read the Inscriptions on runes that are affected by Nen. He has genius-level intellect and was one of the creators of Greed Island, and can manipulate people, even strangers, easily.

He can mimic Nen abilities as we saw in his bout with Leorio, but can also perform various Emission Nen techniques; perhaps his type is Emission, but it’s not been confirmed.

3. Maha Zoldyck

Maha Zoldyck, the oldest living member of the Zoldyck family, is the strongest Nen user in Hunter x Hunter. Isaac Netero, considered the most powerful Nen user in the world, was the only person strong enough to confront and survive Maha.

Since Netero’s Nen didn’t really wane with age, it’s unlikely that Maha’s did.

It is possible the Maha Zoldyck is the same person as Zigg Zoldyck, the legendary explorer who joined Netero to the Dark Continent. Surviving the DC is not a small feat.

2. The 4 Dark Continent Disasters

Hunter x Hunter has 5 Great Calamities or Threats in the series, which are 5 different specimens that humanity brought back from their voyages to the Dark Continent.

They are Brion, the botanical weapon, Hellbell, the two-tailed snake, Pap, the human-keeper, Zobae, the immortality disease, and Ai, a gaseous lifeform. I’ll talk about Ai in #1.

These 4 Disasters have a threat level higher than even the Chimera Ants, which means they are more dangerous than Mereum. Let that sink in.

1. Nanika/Ai

Nanika, or Ai, is the strongest character in Hunter x Hunter. It’s one of the five Great Threats from the Dark Continent that has Infinite Hatsu – an ability to make anything happen without any cost to the user themselves.

It hasn’t been confirmed in the manga that Nanika and Ai are the same entity, but the evidence of their victims makes it rather clear. Their way of talking, their appearance, and their desires also make it likely that they’re the same.

Also, Ai is a Gaseous lifeform, so I’d imagine it’s easy for someone like them to enter a human’s body.

Nanika currently possesses Killua’s sister, Alluka, so her physical prowess is limited to her body. But it’s certain that Ai, being a Disaster from the DC, has extraordinary power, combat or otherwise.

Hunter x Hunter is a Shonen anime adapted from manga of the same name.

The story follows the adventures of a young boy, Gon, discovering that his dead father wasn’t dead but was a legendary Hunter. Instead of feeling dejected, Gon decides to follow in his father’s footsteps and become a great Hunter himself.

The job of a Hunter isn’t an easy one, and Gon needs to pass an exam to become an official hunter. He makes friends on this journey, and they all must help each other overcome any obstacles.
