Although the anime got recognition in several places. Strike Witches was named a Jury Selection work in the Animation Division of the 12th Japan Media Arts Festival; the funds come from the government.
(b) The Studio
The renowned David Production will handle the long awaited third installment of the ‘girls with guns’ anime series. When it comes to David Production, one can put their trust in them. (c) Why is it popular?
A fanservice show which manages to make the fanservice a natural part of the setting so that it doesn’t even stand out, that’s quite an achievement in a way. Plus, the loveable sympathetic cute and charismatic girls with hardcore weapons in their hands is enough to swoon anyone away.
The chaos they emit, it’s on a different level. It’s a story which while not being anything special, does its job to be heroic and provide satisfying final battles.
Another strength of the whole franchise is the world-building with over 150 named witches, alternate history and world map, etc.
(d) About Fumikane Shimada
Fumikane Shimada is the man behind ‘Strike Witches.’ He started drawing illustrations of military hardware girls in several commercial hobbyist magazines and later on, numerous manga series, light novel series, video games and anime series were created from that.
Although Fumikane is well known for drawing mechanical girl designs, he is also able to draw detailed illustrations of weapons based on his knowledge of the mechanics of military weapons, and is not limited to drawing female characters.
(e) Production Update
As of the last update, David Production or any other production company related to ‘Strike Witches: Road to Berlin’ hasn’t announced any release date yet. The only information that has been disclosed is that the anime series will be airing in Fall 2020 in October 2020.
