The release date for Knock at the Cabin on streaming platforms is fast approaching.
Based on Paul G. Tremblay’s novel, The Cabin at the End of the World, the film’s plot centers around a family forced to make an excruciating decision.
The impending collapse of the world can only be averted by sacrificing one of their own. The family must determine whether the fate of the world outweighs the value of their familial bond.
Per Collider, the film will start streaming on OTT platforms on March 24. It’s directed by M. Night Shyamalan and will be available on Peacock.
The release of this movie coincides with the arrival of other popular titles like M3GAN and Puss in Boots: The Last Wish.
So, it will be interesting to see how it fares against the competitors.
Knock at the Cabin did not perform as well at the box office when compared to some of Shyamalan’s other recent movies.
Despite generating $54.1 million in revenue with a $20 million budget, it fell short compared to the $90.2 million earned by Old and the massive $247 million made by Glass.
Additionally, the film sparked controversy due to its deviation from Tremblay’s original book, The Cabin at the End of the World.
Despite generating the highest rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the critics and fans grew out of the movie very soon.
While it initially earned a 72% rating from critics with 319 reviews, that number has fallen to 67%.
While still considered Fresh by Rotten Tomatoes, this represents a significant drop. Meanwhile, the film’s audience score has also decreased to 63% after receiving over 1,000 reviews.
Critics have labeled the movie mediocre due to its significant deviation from the source material.
In his attempt to transform a psychological horror story into an apocalyptic thriller, Shyamalan has missed the original work’s essence, leading to this criticism.
Although some critics may view it as average, it is uncertain whether the ratings will improve when the project is released on Peacock.
