Just a few hours after dropping a very strange and ambiguous teaser for the upcoming season, the Stranger Things YouTube channel uploaded another teaser. The first teaser seemed vague, but both the clips seemed to be connected and became a bit more coherent after the second teaser was released.
The first clip, titled ‘HNL Control Room’, has seven analogue TV sets arranged in a circle showing static noise and turning on alternately, displaying seemingly random images.
In the first clip, each image appears at an interval of 11 seconds, referencing Eleven, one of the series protagonists. Almost all the images have traces of blood on them, making the upcoming season seem darker than the previous ones.
Some of the images seen include a Magic 8-Ball and three different shots of rooms with a rainbow-coloured theme. This could refer to Kali, aka 008, who was introduced in season 2, and Eleven first remembers her as a kid in a rainbow-coloured room.
The second teaser was hinted at in the video description of the first one as it read, ‘Due to technical difficulties, Hawkins National Laboratory will be closed until further notice. We will be back in service tomorrow at 9:00AM ET.’
Shortly after releasing this cryptic video, the Stranger Things account on Twitter tweeted, ‘Are you ready?’
As expected, the second teaser, titled ‘Eleven, are you listening?’, was released at precisely 9:00 AM ET. In the second clip, we see some kids playing in a rainbow room in what looks like Hawkins National Laboratory.
At timestamp 0:23 seconds, Plinko coins cover the numbers 4, 7, 8, and the numbers 3, 5, 6 are seen. There is a possibility that more kids with superpowers like Eleven and Kali might be introduced in season 4. The video ends with a shot of a room door with the number ’11’ on it. This could mean we might get to know more about Eleven’s past and ‘papa’ aka, Dr Martin Brenner.
The description of this video reads ‘002/004’. Whereas the first teaser released in 2020 was released with the description ‘001/004’, meaning that this could be the second in a series of 4 teasers before a final trailer is released. 4 could also be a sneaky reference to the number of kids from HNL who will be introduced in the new season as in the latest teaser, we see four kids in the rainbow room.
Season 3 ended with Joyce, Will and Jonathan packing up and leaving Hawkins with Eleven, who supposedly lost her powers. Hopper is assumed to be dead, but the post-credit scene suggested otherwise.
In the post-credit scene set in Kamchatka, Russia, a Russian soldier says, “No, not the American”, hinting that there was an American hostage held there. It was confirmed that this ‘American’ was indeed Jim Hopper in a teaser, titled ‘From Russia with love’ (001/004), posted back in February 2020.
In November 2020, the official Stranger Things Instagram account shared a post introducing eight new cast members. With such rapid updates, it is only a matter of time before we finally get to watch the trailer for season 4.
