Stranger Things might end, but the creators will continue bringing exciting new stories from the Upside Down.
A Stranger Things spinoff project, rumored until now, was positively confirmed by The Duffer Brothers in a recent interview with Variety.
Considering the script for season 5, which also serves as the last season, is still being developed, the creator duo did not reveal much about the spinoff. However, they did assure that it is “different than what anyone is expecting.”
Ross Duffer shared that there is a version they are working on while simultaneously working on season 5. Since it is a spinoff project, a lot of what will appear in the show/movie will also depend on the original show’s last season.
“There’s a version of it developing in parallel [to season 5], but they would never shoot it parallel. I think actually we’re going to start delving into that soon as we’re winding down and finishing these visual effects, Matt and I are going to start getting into it.”

Matt Duffer chimed in and talked about wanting the project to stand independently – with or without the Stranger Things title.
In an era where almost every popular project is getting a spinoff, The Duffer Brothers want to make sure that it is something they would want to create not for the sake of profits, but a story. He added that the spinoff would be different from even Netflix’s expectations.
“The reason we haven’t done anything is just because you don’t want to be doing it for the wrong reasons, and it was just like, ‘Is this something I would want to make regardless of it being related to Stranger Things or not?’ And definitely. Even if we took the Stranger Things title off of it, I’m so, so excited about it. But it is not… It’s going to be different than what anyone is expecting, including Netflix.”

Meanwhile, in a past interview with EW, the creators were asked if there was anything beyond Stranger Things 5.
They did not outright mention a “spinoff” but teased that there remains many “new mysteries, new adventures, new unexpected heroes.”
It might take some time before the world hears more about a Stranger Things spinoff. But for now, all attention is on the epic Volume 2 that will arrive on Netflix on July 1.
