Stranger Things is an ongoing 2016 sci-fi horror series created by Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer, commonly known as the Duffer Brothers. Upon its premiere, the show became an instant hit and pop sensation.
The show revolves around the lives of a group of teenagers and their families living in rural Hawkins, Indiana as they tussle with supernatural threats from the Upside-Down with the help of a girl with telekinetic powers—Eleven (Milly Bobbie Brown).
Since its release, the show has only gotten bigger and bigger, with the upcoming Season 4 promising to be the biggest release yet. While the show is already renewed for a fifth season, there’s more in store for viewers.
Now, the Duffer Brothers have revealed that they have plans for a spinoff.
As Stranger Things Season 4 Volume 1 is set to launch this week, the Duffers speak to Variety about the series. After Stranger Things is done, the Duffer brothers say they are considering a spinoff, but it will not be anything like its predecessor.
Even though they have not written anything for the upcoming spinoff, the creators say it will definitely come as a surprise to everyone—except Finn Wolfhard (Mike), who’s already guessed the ideas on his own.
“We do have an idea for a spinoff that we’re super excited about … but we haven’t told anyone the idea yet, much less written it. We think everyone—including Netflix—will be surprised when they hear the concept, because it’s very, very different. But somehow Finn Wolfhard—who is one crazy smart kid—correctly guessed what it was going to be about. But aside from Finn, no one else knows!”
It will be interesting to see what more is to come from the creators, given the upcoming season itself seems to be vastly different from the last three seasons, as the Stranger Things realm gets bigger and bigger.
There is a chance fans won’t see the current plan for their Stranger Things spinoff, given that the showrunners still need to complete Season 5, which will conclude the tale of Eleven and Hawkins.
Many changes might come along after the finale, but it seems like the creators still have a good grip on what it’s going to be. All that we can do for now is wait and watch (the new season).
