Funimation's official website announced the release of Akira film’s remastered version in a limited edition Blu-ray disc on December 22nd, 2020
The limited-edition will include a box promoting art from the film and a 40-page booklet. The new version feature clear, crisp and vibrant images.
The digitally remastered movie shipped in the form of 4K Blu-ray Disc in Japan on April 24th and was also planned to be screened in the United States.
Akira is a 1988 post-apocalyptic cyberpunk anime film directed by Katsuhiro Otomo, based on Otomo’s 1982 manga.
The story begins in the year 1988 when the Japanese govt destroys Tokyo with an atomic bomb after an ESP experiment conducted on children go wrong.
In 2019, three decades after Tokyo city was devastated, a bike gang leader, Kaneda tries to save his friend Tetsuo from a secret government project.
