Eighteen years after Mary and George, as an unmarried couple, became pregnant with Georgie, their son is now facing a similar situation, repeating history all over again.
Young Sheldon dropped a huge bomb when it was revealed that Georgie got his older girlfriend Mandy pregnant.
As Sheldon and Missy’s older brother went to former boss Dale for advice, he was given a choice, “Tell your father or I will.” In the final minutes of the episode, Georgie plucked up the courage to talk to his dad in the garage and tell him about the pregnancy.
As the Coopers contemplate their next move, series co-creator Steve Molaro dismissed a fan theory, suggesting if there’s one thing that’s out of the question, it is that Mandy would be getting an abortion.
While talking to TVLine, when asked about whether abortion was in consideration for the story, Molaro said,
“No… But obviously, Mary’s religion always plays a factor in these types of stories and will continue to—not on that particular level, but more on how they should handle this moving forward.… It’s certainly one of the [storylines] that will take us through the end of Season 5.”
Season 5 saw Georgie go through some significant life changes as he dropped out of school and started working full time to make a living. His relationship seems a bit more complicated as he claimed to be 21 years old when in reality, he’s 17, leading to Mandy breaking up with him.
However, they’re now tied to each other due to her pregnancy. As we wait to see how the Coopers would react to the pregnancy, Molaro stated,
“It’s so loaded, with so many emotions and feelings among these characters. There is anger, and at the same time, there is understanding, which makes for a really interesting sandbox of stories to climb into.”
Due to being a prequel to The Big Bang Theory, fans already know some facts about the future Georgie. He later becomes a successful businessman, owning the Dr. Tire chain in Texas. The predecessor had also mentioned that Georgie had two ex-wives, both unnamed.
The series never mentioned kids, and now that Molaro has stated that abortion isn’t an option, maybe Mandy loses her baby due to other complications, or perhaps it wasn’t that important a detail to be mentioned in TBBT.
The recent episode of Young Sheldon also marked the death of Sheldon’s childhood hero, Foundation author Isaac Asimov. As Season 5 inches closer to its finale, it still has to wrap up other plotlines like George’s cheating scandal.
Young Sheldon Season 5 Episode 19, titled “A God-Fearin’ Baptist and a Hot Trophy Husband,” airs on April 21 on CBS.
