Stephen Amell has no hesitation going back to his role as Green Arrow, preferably, as a limited series on Netflix or HBO Max.
Amell sits down with Michael Rosenbaum in the latest episode (Ep 179) of the Inside of You podcast, where he talks about his ongoing show Heels, clearing out some tabloid misunderstandings and whether or not, he’d once again take up the mantle of a superhero.
Here’s what he had to say:
If I had been approached I wouldn’t say, but I have not. I was thinking about this question as I drove here and … If the opportunity ever came up to like do six to eight episodes of Arrow as, like, a limited series on Netflix or HBO Max – or something like that, or on The CW, as the case may be – I think that would be amazing.
Stephen Amell
This is not the first time Amell has expressed the sentiment post the show winding up.
On the same podcast, last November, Amell disclosed a conversation between him and Arrow producer Greg Berlanti wherein he offered to reprise the role if need be.
At the time, it was connected to the stricter Covid-19 filming conditions in Vancouver, the shutdown of several Arrowverse projects and inaccessibility to actors who were across the border.
Amell promised that if he were to stay around the filming location, he’d favor spending his time working (acting).
It was just a matter of figuring out how to revive his Oliver Queen back from the dead.
Amell’s time as Green Arrow has been long and fruitful — eight seasons, 170 episodes, six major crossovers and the genesis of the Arrowverse.
As a vigilante, the Green Arrow fought numerous battles but his song came to an end in the crossover “Crisis on Infinite Earths” where he had to sacrifice himself in order to restore the balance of the universe.
In the Arrow’s series finale “Faded,” Team Arrow and Star City at large mourn the death of the hero. The curtains shut with some closure, as Felicity is able to unite with a peaceful Oliver in the afterlife.
But Amell knows as well as we do that Arrowverse is all about alternate universes and time travel. A superhero never really stays dead for long. If producers want to bring back Arrow, it can be done.
In fact, Season 8 itself had so many time jumps, that exploring either of them in detail isn’t entirely impossible. And it may give Amell a reason to return as Green Arrow once again.
Whether it happens or not, we can continue to be reassured by Amell’s affinity to the character and the fact that Arrow’s ending was quite a well-written one on its own.
About Arrow
Arrow is an American superhero television series developed by Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim, and Andrew Kreisberg based on the DC Comics character Green Arrow, a costumed crime-fighter created by Mort Weisinger and George Papp, and is set in the Arrowverse with other related television series. The series premiered in the United States on The CW on October 10, 2012, and was primarily filmed in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
Arrow follows billionaire playboy Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell), who claimed to have spent five years shipwrecked on Lian Yu, a mysterious island in the North China Sea, before returning home to Starling City (later renamed “Star City”) to fight crime and corruption as a secret vigilante whose weapon of choice is a bow and arrow.
