Steam is setting up a sale event that is sure to excite gamers who love open-world titles like Red Dead Redemption 2, Valheim, The Witcher 3, Cyberpunk 2077, and the likes.
For those not in the know, an open-world game is a type of video game which includes a high-functioning, close-to-reality virtual world as it’s primary setting. The player can explore this world and interact with objectives freely, as opposed to a world with more linear and structured gameplay. In the past couple of years, this category has seen extreme popularity with the previously mentioned games, among others, winning many accolades.
Coming back to Steam, the video game distribution service recently announced the Steam Open World Sale and invited developers to check if they are eligible to participate in the event. The eligibility criteria are fairly simple: your game must be tagged either “Open World” or “Open World Survival Craft”, be released on or before May 27, and be willing to offer at least some sort of discount for potential buyers.
The sale will run from May 27- 31 and devs and publishers are required to complete their registrations before 8 AM PST on May 27. Once registered, developers will receive an email with further instructions for setting discounts and whatnot, unless their game is free-to-play.
Steam has not announced the games that will be included in the sale but some popular AAA titles can definitely be expected.
Steam has been good to its users lately and it seems the appreciation runs both ways. After achieving a record-breaking user count earlier this year, the company launched remote play which allowed Steam users to play with gamers that are not registered on the platform.
