As far as game leaks go, the leaking of the release date is as benign a problem as you can imagine. While developers may want the element of surprise on when they will release their title, it’s not that big a deal if it gets out early. That’s what has happened today as several users noted that the Steam API had revealed a slate of unannounced release dates for upcoming games on the storefront.
Reported by the SteamDB Discord group, one of the revealed games was Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves, which had a release planned for July 15th.
Also, other games have been listed in the Steam API leak, including Scorn (Friday, October 7th), Sniper Elite 5 (Tuesday, May 31st), Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown (Thursday, September 22nd), Stray (Tuesday, April 19th), Oxenfree II: Lost Signals (Thursday, June 30th), Sonic Frontiers (Thursday, September 1st), and Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising (Thursday, May 12th).
Now, this leak is in no way comparable to an official confirmation of solid release dates, as they could just be estimates by Valve as to when expect each listed game to launch. The other theory is the dates could just be placeholders.
Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves is a remastered collection consisting of Uncharted: A Thief’s End and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. The collection will be coming to PlayStation 5 and PC, featuring improvements like 4K visuals, and 60 and 120 FPS.
A similar event occurred with NVIDIA last year. In September 2021, a vulnerability in NVIDIA’s GeForce Now App leaked the internal Steam listings for 18,000 games coming to PC. Many of these games were not even announced at that time, such as Demon’s Souls, Ghost of Tsushima, Final Fantasy 7 Remake, God of War, and Horizon Forbidden West.
Some of these games eventually came onto the PC platform shortly, even though NVIDIA stated that the list was pure speculation. So, if we take that as an example, some of these release dates could be legit. We’ll have to wait and see what Valve has planned.
