Owing to the first season’s massively favorable reviews, Stargirl has been picked up for two more seasons. Season 2 set to premier in August, 2021 teases the arrival of DC’s villain Eclipso against Stargirl, reveals poster.
Brec Brassinger reprises her title role of the superhero wielding the Cosmic Staff in DC’s Stargirl whichdebuted on the streaming platform DC Universe in May, 2020.
After having defeated Icicle in Season 1, the Justice Society of America (JSA) was ready to put their superhero crime-fighting days behind them.
The finale however ends with the ominous scene of Shiv discovering a mysterious diamond, saying, “I see you, Eclipso.”
Have a look at Stargirl’s Season 2 posture.
The two key elements in the poster are the Cosmic Staff pitted against the Heart of Darkness, shrouded in glowing electric sizzles.
Remember the mysterious diamond that makes its first appearance at the end of Stargirl’s Season 1? The diamond is in fact the Heart of Darkness (aka the Black Diamond), which is built to contain the Eclipso, once an Angel of Vengeance, now turned evil.
The poster clearly teases a showdown between Stargirl backed up by JSA and Eclipso.
The arrival of Eclipso (who will be played by Nick Taraby) has been no surprise. At the New York Comic Con ‘21, showrunner Geoff Johns spoke of the implications of having the Heart of Darkness in the show.
“The thing inside is, this entity that’s trapped, this ancient being that feeds off humanity’s own sins and grief and fear and darkness is trapped in this Black Diamond and has been there for a long, long time and is aching to do what he does and feed off the darkness within humanity.”

In March, 2021, CW also released an exclusive first-look of the character via TVLine.
Thanks to showrunner Johns’ extensive comics knowledge, besides the big bad Eclipso, Stargirl will also have another villain to take care of. Jonathan Cake will also be joining Season 2 as The Shade, a former member of the Injustice Society of America.
The JSA will have their hands full fighting new terrors and balancing their ordinary lives. (Might we remind our superheroes of their homework submissions?)
We believe they may require some help from a new superhero. Cue the arrival of Jade, Green Lantern’s daughter, who has been added to the new season as well.
Season 2 of Stargirl will be released on August 10, 2021.
