Microsoft’s acquisition of Bethesda late last year raised several doubts about whether any of the studio’s upcoming titles will come to PlayStation.
While Deathloop is already confirmed to be a PS5-exclusive, a lot is still up in the air for the highly-anticipated Starfield.
After a first announcement back in 2018, the game received a trailer and release date at E3 2021. It was also revealed that the game would arrive only for Xbox Series X|S and PC, leaving all excited fans on PlayStation disappointed.
There has been plenty of debate, and this front, as most people say that the game might still come out for PlayStation. But, according to a recent response from Xbox GM Aaron Greenberg on Twitter, it seems that Bethesda has no such plans in place.
The response was discovered in a Twitter thread where game commentator The Red Dragon shared a take from Bethesda’s Pete Hines.
Citing Minecraft’s existence on PlayStation even after Xbox acquired developer Mojang, Hines implied that Starfield may still arrive for PlayStation. However, Greenberg feels differently.
In a set of responses in the thread, Greenberg shared that Starfield is currently under development for Xbox and PC exclusively. He also highlighted that the game is not a timed exclusive. It has been officially marketed as an Xbox exclusive, so it is not expected to be released for other consoles.
Greenberg has made it pretty clear from the tweets above that the title will not arrive for PlayStation anytime soon. So, it would be wise for players on Sony consoles to keep their expectations low.
However, players on Microsoft systems need to do no such thing as the game will arrive on Xbox Games Pass on launch day itself.
This update may be disheartening for many. But it’s important to note that top executives have to tiptoe around revealing such details quite often, particularly when interacting with folks on social media.
So, until Xbox makes an official announcement confirming or denying a PS release, one could assume that the game will arrive for PlayStation at some point. But they must make their peace with the fact that it won’t be anytime soon.
Starfield is scheduled to release on November 11, 2022, for PC and Xbox Series X|S.
