Star Wars: The Bad Batch Season 2 Gets a Spring 2022 Release Window

Lucasfilm has a lot of content stacked up for Star Wars fans this year, which might also include The Bad Batch Season 2.

The animated series was an instant hit when it first premiered in May 2021, so much so that Disney+ wasted no time in announcing its renewal right before Season 1 concluded in August.

Now a new photo leak has revealed the show’s tentative release period. The photo appears to be taken from a recent issue of Star Wars Insider magazine.

The snapshot was posted by Reddit user u/alcibiad and reads that Star Wars: The Bad Batch series is set to return to Disney+ in Spring 2022.

As The Book of Boba Fett is currently releasing weekly episodes on the platform, The Bad Batch could fit right after its conclusion and possibly before Obi-Wan Kenobi’s premiere.

Other than the shows mentioned above, the Star Wars universe expands further this year with The Mandalorian’s much-awaited Season 3, alongside the new shows Andor and Ahsoka.

The Bad Batch Season 1 took place in the period between the Star Wars prequels and the original trilogy, following a group of deviant clone troopers, Clone Force 99, and their ward, Omega.

The reason the series captivated fans so much was because it has all the right elements as it references several legacy characters and answers questions that were unresolved in other animated Star Wars titles.

As we see in Season 1, the Clone Force 99 are on the run after the events of Revenge of the Sith, so a much bigger adventure awaits them with the rise of the Empire.

While announcing the renewal in August, Michael Paull, President of Disney+ and ESPN+, said in a statement,

Fans have enthusiastically embraced the action and drama of Star Wars: The Bad Batch, and we are excited to see the Star Wars animated universe continue to expand on Disney+. As the dedicated streaming home for the Star Wars franchise, we can’t wait for the second season of this fan-favorite animated series.

It’s interesting to see if the animated series would connect to The Mandalorian, similar to how Clone Wars tied into it. Actress Ming-Na Wen also voiced Fennec Shand in Season 1 of the animated series, leaving the possibility open for a Boba Fett tie-in as well.
