Disney+ is all set to release Stars Wars: The Bad Batch. But, before its premiere, here’s everything you need to know about Lucasfilm’s upcoming animated series.
It will premiere on Disney+ on May 4, 2021, in honor of Star Wars Day, better known as May the Fourth. The pilot will have an extended 70-minute premiere and will launch at 12:01 am PST. New episodes will roll out every Friday on the streaming service.
Following the trailer from March, Star Wars‘ official YouTube page has released a featurette ahead of the show’s debut on Disney+. The video begins with Palpatine’s commands of executing Order 66 and goes on to introduce the Bad Batch team.
It also offers glimpses into their individual skills and the action sequences they’ll engage in throughout the show. Check out the video here:
Moreover, the Star Wars website has revealed new posters for each character which sees them in all their glory. Classified as top-secret, the site reveals that in celebration of the show’s release, Lucasfilm and Walt Disney dropped the posters for fans’ delight.
The series was first ordered by Disney+ back in July 2020 to serve as a spin-off of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. According to director Brad Rau, Season 1 of The Bad Batch will have sixteen episodes.
The story will pick up from the events of Clone Wars Season 7, in which The Bad Batch made their first appearance back in 2008. With The Empire having taken over the Galaxy, the team is left to figure out what their future holds.
Tasked with doing messier jobs, the clones decide to switch sides and become mercenaries taking on dangerous missions.
Furthermore, a return to the planet where the clones were created is also in the plans, where they will recruit a mysterious young girl named Omega to join their team.
As the featurette indicates, the main characters who make up the team are the five clones from Clone Force 99. Led by Hunter, the team includes Crosshair, Echo, Tech, and Wrecker.
Dee Bradley Baker will reprise his role from the past Star Wars animated projects as the voice actor for all clone troopers and will also voice Captain Rex, another clone who is set to appear in the show.
Furthermore, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. actress Ming-Na Wen too will reprise her role as Fennec Shand from The Mandalorian.
Stephen Stanton and Andrew Kishino are also set to voice Grand Moff Tarkin and Saw Gerrera, respectively. However, as of now, it is unknown who will play Emperor Palpatine.
But with the first episode not too far away, perhaps we’ll get to know soon enough, among other details.
