Unlock, Upgrade, Conquer: Star Wars Outlaws Ultimate Tool Guide – How to Get Them All

Star Wars Outlaws’ Kay Vess is no typical hero, and her toolkit reflects that. In a departure from traditional Star Wars protagonists, this outlaw at the center of this Star Wars game forgoes the iconic Force and Lightsaber combination.

Instead, this unconventional hero relies on a selection of specialized tools to survive in outer space. Join us as we explore every tool at their disposal and how to add them to your arsenal in this ultimate tool guide.

Tools are essential to Kay’s gameplay in Star Wars Outlaws, and some require completing minigames to use successfully. These minigames vary in style, from rhythm-based challenges to decoding patterns on hacking terminals.

Fortunately, she starts with a solid foundation of five tools – Grappling Hook, Glowlamp, Electrobnioculars, Bacta Vial, and Grenades – that don’t need unlocking. As players progress, additional tools can be unlocked through story milestones or ability upgrades.

Let’s dive into the list of tools that can be obtained beyond the initial set and break down the steps to unlock each one.

Early in the game, during the “Beginnings” mission in Canto Bight, Kay will acquire the Data Spike, a crucial tool for unlocking doors and chests. To obtain it, Kay must gather enough credits to purchase the Data Spike from Preeban.

Utilize Nix’s credit-stealing ability to accumulate funds quickly. Once unlocked, the Data Spike allows Kay to bypass locks, engaging in a surprisingly enjoyable rhythm-based minigame to access previously inaccessible areas.

2. Smoke Bomb

To add Smoke Bombs to Kay’s arsenal, you must unlock an ability from The Mechanic, Selo Rovak, one of the game’s initial Experts. First, reveal their intel chain by completing “New Tricks” for Danka.

Then, complete The Mechanic’s missions, which are full-fledged quests. You’ll have to gather the required materials: Smoke Bomb Compressor, Polycarbonate (x7), and MG-2 Power Exceeder (x1). Use the Key Part Intel page in the Journal’s second-to-last section to find rare parts.

3. Slicing Kit

The Slicing Kit is a vital tool that enables Kay to hack into various terminals and data ports, bypassing previously inaccessible barriers and systems. To obtain the Slicing Kit, simply complete The Slicer’s questline, which becomes available after completing “New Tricks” for Danka.

The Slicing Kit is the primary ability granted by The Slicer, with no additional unlock requirements. Once acquired, upgrade the Slicing Kit by unlocking The Slicer’s Slice Kit Upgrade Ability.

4. Holotracker

For the Holotracker, progress through the game until ND-5 joins the crew. ND-5 will contact Kay shortly after, requesting a return to the Trailblazer. Respond promptly to this call, and ND-5 will explain the Holotracker’s purpose and functionality, making it available for unlocking.

The Holotracker will guide Kay to hidden vaults containing valuable gear left behind by Jet Kordo, the original owner of the Trailblazer, and smuggler caches scattered throughout the game world, holding secrets and rewards.

5. Electro-shock Prod

Gather the required materials: NL-2 Charge Emitter, Chalcopyrite (x15), and Ion Cells (x5). Once unlocked, the Electro-shock Prod enables Kay to effectively take down Elite enemies in stealth mode.

6. Fusioncutter

Gedeek will provide the tool to Kay as they explore an underground hideout. This will likely be the final tool Kay unlocks, completing her set.
