“Star Wars” News: Owen Lars Actor Has One Condition for Returning

Joel Edgerton returned in the Disney+ series Obi-Wan: Kenobi after nearly two decades after his first and only performance in the Star Wars franchise. The actor first played the role of Owen Lars in Star Wars: Episode II — Attack of the Clones, a Tatooine farmer and the stepbrother of Anakin Skywalker who raises Luke as his own.

The actor appeared in Obi-Wan: Kenobi for a short stint, standing resolutely in the Jedi Master’s path from taking Luke under his wing. Lars blamed Obi-Wan for killing his stepbrother, a deed with which the Jedi had tortured himself since.

By the end of the series, Lars made his amends with Kenobi after agreeing Luke Skywalker will lead a life of normalcy. While Obi-Wan: Kenobi hasn’t been renewed for season 2, Screenrant asked Edgerton whether he’d be interested in returning for the next instalment or any other Star Wars project.

He replied positively, saying he’d return to the “party” if he were “invited,” but put his potential comeback under a condition. He explained that “in many ways,” the story has come “full circle,” but he’d return for a “bright idea” for Uncle Owen. Read his full answer below:

Star Wars: Episode II — Attack of the Clones

I didn’t have to push that hard [for the fight], I think there was already a feeling that they wanted to see me mess with a little bit of violence in that series, but yeah, I was definitely keen to push it myself. I don’t know; I believe that should only turn up if there’s a good valid reason for it; I wouldn’t want to invite myself to a party where I don’t really belong.

I feel like, in many ways, that story has maybe come full circle or completed itself in the way that it needed to. But I’m sure there’s someone that, if they had a bright idea, I would definitely put the hessian on again. I always joke that it’s the Tatooine fabric of choice is, it’s like a potato sack, like a brown, coarse kind of material. I’d love to see someone make a Vogue cover for Vogue Tatooine.

Well, Edgerton has a good point – whatever needed to be said for his role has been communicated and filmed. However, a big chunk of Star Wars events lies between Obi-Wan Kenobi and New Hope, which means he could return in some capacity.

If Joel Edgerton were to return as Owen Lars, a season 2 of Obi-Wan: Kenobi would be the best bet for Lucasfilm and Disney+ to write a story for him. Would you want to see Lars in Star Wars again? Tell us in the comments below.
