The Enterprise embarks upon a rescue mission that is outside of Federation Space in order to retrieve a group of colonists that had been attacked by pirates. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Episode 8 Speculation
Pike successfully manages to get the pirates to mutiny and fight over leadership while he takes command of their ship. Spock and Chapel tell T’Pring that they were having a secret affair and even kiss to make it seem more believable. Upon seeing this, T’Pring backs out of the prisoner exchange deal, causing Aspen’s mission to fail.
Spock makes up with T’Pring and reassures her that he lied about the affair to blow up the deal. He reveals that Aspen’s husband is his half-brother and is extremely dangerous. Will Aspen manage to break her husband out of imprisonment?

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Episode 7 Recap
The Enterprise is summoned for assistance in a mission that is outside of Federation space. They are approached by Councilor Aspen who informs them of a group of colonists that were attacked by pirates. Pike is concerned about the surviving colonists being enslaved by the Pirates so he decides to embark upon a rescue mission to retrieve them despite not having Starfleet support.
However, they walk right into a trap and the pirates launch an invasion on the Enterprise, taking advantage of the decreased shield security to facilitate the landing party. Pike notices that there is a lack of unity and trust amongst the Pirates and plots to drive them to mutiny so he can take advantage of the resultant chaos to regain control of the ship.
While he initially believed that Aspen’s husband was killed by the same pirates, her true intentions are revealed after she tricks Spock into lifting the command lockdown. She had a long-standing grudge against the Vulcans, who had imprisoned her husband in a rehabilitation facility. Her real plan was to take control of the ship and use T’pring and Spock’s romantic connection to get her husband back in a prisoner exchange.
