The season 1 finale of Star Trek: Prodigy just aired this week, and it was a concoction of action, emotion, drama, loss, and everything one could hope from a classic Star Trek installment.
After the massacre in last week’s episode, I expected the finale to have moments of emotional tension because they needed to destroy the Protostar. The way they made Janeway’s character stand out throughout this entire fiasco touched my heart.
After this bombastic ending, season 2 will be even more eventful.
Without much ado, let’s be Sherlocking!
1. Season 2 Speculation
Season 2 of Star Trek: Prodigy will have many opportunities to develop these canon characters even further. In the finale of season 1, Janeway fights tooth and nail to save the group from the Federation. She even tries to save the augment by saying it is the congregation of 26 DNAs from different planets.
In the end, Janeway announces that five have been granted entry into the academy. Everyone assumes Dal is the one who got rejected, but he gets selected by the Federation.
Nevertheless, Dal rejects the offer just moments later. So, the real question is will he feature as a part of the Starfleet in season 2? Or will he be given a different role altogether?
We still don’t know much about his origins. His origins will be explored further in the next season.
Season 2 will also show their lives in the Starfleet Academy as training officers in command. How their chemistry develops after such a traumatic ending to season 1 will be something to look out for.
They are not cadets in the academy, as it wouldn’t be fair. They are given the accolade of special warrant officers.
The finale ends with them visiting their new ship for the first time. It’s a Protostar-class vessel and seems sassy!
I am excited to see their new lives as Starfleet members in season 2!
Meanwhile, Janeway’s hologram has been destroyed. Since, it is an algorithm; I expect the entity to come back in some form in season 2.
Whatever be it, the sequel is going to be even better! Hopefully, the makers won’t keep us waiting for long!

4. Where to watch Star Trek: Prodigy?
5. Season 1, Episode 20 Recap
If you were busy flying in your spaceship and missed this week’s episode, then we have the perfect recap to summarize it.
In this week’s finale, the crew must destroy the Protostar to destroy the device and stop the annihilation. Someone needs to stay inside the Protostar to steer it so that the destruction causes as minor collateral damage as possible.
Hologram Janeway takes responsibility and sacrifices her life to save the Starfleet and destroy the Protostar.
Meanwhile, the crew return to San Francisco, facing a huge tribunal. They are charged with several accusations, but the real Janeway defends them with everything she has. She succeeds, and the five crew members are offered positions in Starfleet, including Dal.
Dal rejects the offer, and the others make their way to see their new spaceship getting unveiled. It is a Protostar grade vessel, and they are recruited in the Academy. This concludes season 1 of Star Trek: Prodigy.
