The trailer for Star Trek: Discovery season 4 is here, and it gives a peek into what will come in the upcoming installment of the series. As the seventh show in line with the franchise, it owes its success to the change in the timeline, occurring before a decade from Star Trek: The Original Series.
Martin Green first introduced the trailer for season 4 following Paramount+’s First Contact Day Event, which boasted the “Women in Motion” panel. Right from the beginning, the clip heads into the impending danger oncoming for Discovery and the burgeoning Federation.
Previously hinted at as a non-living entity by showrunner Alex Kurtzman, its identity has now been confirmed as a cataclysmic gravitational anomaly. However, fans were blown away by the news that the series returns not in 2022 but this year.
According to Paul Stamets (Anthony Rapp) in the trailer, the anomaly is revealed to be a force that stretches “five light-years across.” The footage also shows the level of destruction it can bring upon, and it is truly frightening.
As is apparent, such a force cannot be combatted alone, and thus, the Discovery crew must look for allies. With that sentiment in mind, the show promises a surprising and warm unification between the crew and the Federation.
Unlike the other newer Star Trek projects, which have moved past the message of harmony and communion, Discovery is bringing back the original values integrated into the franchise. The early look at the next installment has fans excited for what more awaits them.
The previous season ended on a high note, with Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) being promoted to captain of the USS Discovery. The crew also reached the 32nd century, where they had to learn the truth behind the Burn, which caused the collapse of the Federation.
Season 3 came to an end in January of this year, but with filming for season 4 already in motion, the wait for its release might not be too long.
