Rocky IV Director’s Cut is in its final stages of production, set to be released on November 11, according to the writer, director, and acting lead Sylvester Stallone
The timely heads-up is all thanks to a trip down memory lane. Stallone posted a video on Instagram of a residence on Camino Palmero Street that he coincidently passed by after doing work for the final rounds of the Director’s Cut.
This was the same residence where he first wrote Rocky, commencing “the big race” four odd decades ago.
His Instagram caption reads:
For me it was buckling down, and setting my mind to a task that far exceeded all my dreams and expectations. I must thank you all for that. This is why you must never stop punching.

Rocky IV Director’s Cut was announced in 2020 and was initially slated for November 27, 2020. As the fourth Rocky film, it was the one that performed the best in the franchise.
Films that undergo a director’s cut do not see a major change in the narrative. In fact, the other movies in the Rocky franchise haven’t either. But that won’t be the case for Rocky IV.
For one, we won’t be seeing Paulie’s robot, who was responsible for a lot of light-hearted moments in the original.
The controversial move also found opposition from Robert Doornick, who voices the robot and is the founder of International Robotics.
According to Doornick, Stallone chose to slash out the robot’s bit to save the royalty money he’d have to pay to Doornick.
The robot may have not been a crucial part of the plot, but it was definitely a fan-beloved
Besides this, the film will also heavily focus on the Apollo vs Dragon match, with footage that has never been seen before! The director’s cut does not yet have an official title and was once even rumored to be called Rocky vs Drago—The Ultimate Director’s Cut.
The direction definitely seems to be more grounded and focused on the action. It will be a treat to see Stallone’s final treatment of the narrative.
As per the Instagram video, Dolby was just finishing its work on the director’s cut. The footage itself was ready in April, and now it seems that the audio work is done too—all in time for its release on November 11.
No streaming plans have yet been announced.
