Luminous Productions will Merge with Square Enix from May 1st

Luminous Productions was separated from the Final Fantasy XV team to become its own enterprise in 2018. The Japanese video game development company has been in the talks because of its upcoming release Forspoken. However, it looks like it will be their first and last project ever.

Square Enix announced that its subsidiary Luminous Productions will be merged back into Square Enix, starting from May 1st. The team will be working to bring out innovative gaming experiences for their fans. So far, Luminous Productions has been solely focused on Forspoken.

The official statement explains the reasoning behind the move which is to strengthen the competitiveness between the company’s internal studios. Luminous Productions has a sole vision to develop AAA titles that “fused technology and artistry.”

Luminous Productions responded to the merger by stating that the studio is concentrating on improving Forspoken with the ongoing development of an upcoming patch, and the “In Tanta We Trust” DLC, which is scheduled to launch this summer.

Although Square Enix has not shared any sales figures, Forspoken is not expected to succeed as well as Final Fantasy XV did. The fantasy game was released in the busiest week of January when most sales are estimated to take place. Despite this, it only ranked 7th in the United States.

Forspoken is a good game, but it certainly could have been better. Its content is below average, its RPG systems are weak, and its visual effects, which were sold as some of the finest ever seen, are less advanced.

Some would argue that it’s definitely not worth the money. But if you’re willing to wait for a sale, it might just make for a decent play.

It follows Frey’s troubled journey in the magical land of Athia, where she battles against evil. Frey was an average New Yorker before she was mysteriously transported to Athia, where people, places, and cultures are foreign to her.

Frey must use her newfound magical abilities to combat monsters, save the Athians, and find her way back home.
