The Jump Festa’23 event that took place on December 18 revealed that the Spy×Family anime will receive a second season and theatrical film in 2023. The film will feature an original story by the manga creator Tatsuya Endo, who is also credited for the original character designs for the film.
The series is directed by Kazuhiro Furuhashi at both WIT Studio and CloverWorks, with character designs by Kazuaki Shimada. Crunchyroll streams the first season of Spy×Family as it airs in Japan.
The first half of the first season premiered on April 9, and the second half on October 1.
The original Spy×Family manga is being published on Shueisha’s MANGA Plus app and website. The manga is being published in English by Viz Media which added the manga to its app as part of the Shonen Jump subscription in September 2019.
The manga’s story, as described by Viz Media, is:
“Master spy Twilight is the best at what he does when it comes to going undercover on dangerous missions in the name of a better world. But when he receives the ultimate impossible assignment—get married and have a kid—he may finally be in over his head!
Not one to depend on others, Twilight has his work cut out for him procuring both a wife and a child for his mission to infiltrate an elite private school. What he doesn’t know is that the wife he’s chosen is an assassin and the child he’s adopted is a telepath!”
The manga is also inspiring a stage musical adaptation in March-May 2023.

Spy × Family is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Tatsuya Endo in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump.
The story follows a spy who has to “build a family” to execute a mission, not realizing that the girl he adopts as a daughter and the woman he agrees to be in a fake marriage with are a mind reader and an assassin respectively.
Season 2 and a theatrical film are releasing in 2023.
