Secretary Sherwood’s dog comes face-to-face with Loid’s dog in Mission 78 of Spy x Family.

It was a fun chapter with no relevance to the main plot. It got quite emotional sometimes as we saw Sherwood’s other life. The poor soul is alone and left with only a dog as a companion.  

Her dog Aaron had a face-off with Bond to see whose dog is better. It was quite hilarious as Bond failed in every task given to him. The match still ended with a tie.

The past few chapters have been episodic, and I have little to no idea what might get covered in the upcoming chapter. Maybe it will be about the daily life of another character. 

I have no problem if we will get to see more of Anya’s mischief. Maybe the episode will be centered around Anya’s school. I hope it is relevant to the plot. However, fans love these chapters that give side characters a little more depth.

Sherwood continues sleeping even after her alarm rings. Her dog forcefully wakes her up. She goes to her work with messed up clothes and hair. However, she turns serious as she reaches her office. 

She asks for all the reports and orders everyone accordingly. Her senior shouts at her for leaving half-full coffee cups and half-eaten donuts around the office, causing major hygiene issues.

After work, she is frustrated by how much she has to listen over little things. She returns to her home to take her dog for a walk. Her dog is lying unconscious because of all the garbage. While cleaning it up, she is reminded of her family.

She goes to the park with her dog and meets Loid. Anya is also present there with Bond. She informs him of his next mission and takes a report on the ongoing mission.  

Loud inquires her about the dog. It is the same dog used as a bomb to assassinate Minister Brantz. Aaron (Sherwood’s dog) greets Bond, but Bond fails to remember him, which angers Aaron. 

Anya knows Bond wants to play with Aaron. So she goes to Sherwood and asks her to play with them to see whose dog is better. Loid doesn’t want that, but Sherwood tells him she will free him from the upcoming mission if he wins. 

The competition begins, and Aaron and Sherwood showcase some amazing skills, but Bond miserably fails. The next contest is to find the enemy’s handkerchief. 

While searching, Bond gets hungry and gets the scent of dried pasta. Chasing that smell takes him to Sherwood’s handkerchief, tying the match. The final event is the frisbee catch. 

Bond sees the upcoming gust of wind that will cause the frisbee to return to the owner. So, when the frisbees are thrown, he doesn’t move. He jumps to catch the frisbee when the wind changes but gets hit in the face.

The match ends with a tie. Later, Sherwood says there might be some teams of Project Apple still experimenting, and they will have to look after it. She thanks Anya for playing with her dog and says goodbye.

Spy × Family is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Tatsuya Endo in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump.

The story follows a spy who has to “build a family” to execute a mission, not realizing that the girl he adopts as a daughter and the woman he agrees to be in a fake marriage with are a mind reader and an assassin respectively.

Season 2 and a theatrical film are releasing in 2023.
