Spider-Man: Across The Spiderverse (Part One) will feature a few new versions of Spider-Man, including Spider-Man 2099, Pavitr Prabhakar, Japanese Spider-Man, and possibly more!
The first look was presented in a trailer with Miles Morales jumping through a bunch of portals to enter other universes:
Is Spider-Man 2099 the Villain?
Miguel O’Hara/Spider-Man 2099 is a variant from the future, that is, the year 2099. He was created by the same evil company Alchemax, who employed Olivia Octavia as their head scientist in Into the Spiderverse. Miguel is 50 percent spider and has some really cool (deadly) abilities, but thankfully he’s not the antagonist.
Now I know we see him attacking Miles in the trailer. But I’m sure there’s a reason behind the misunderstanding. The tension will diffuse, and the two are sure to pair up against the actual bad guys.
Besides Oscar Isaac reprising his role, the good news is that Miguel could be another central figure in the Spiderverse. Fans are super excited about this development!
Will We See Pavitr Prabhakar in Across The Spiderverse?
It seems very likely that Pavitr Prabhakar, an Indian variant of Spider-Man, will appear in the movie. The trailer is a dead giveaway, with animations of an Indian metropolis, the sounds of tablas and sitars playing, and Hindi comic book captions in the background.
Comic book-wise, Spider-Man: India had a very similar storyline to Amazing Fantasy. It is unknown if Pavitr will have a larger role in this movie, but one thing’s for sure—it will be fun to explore Pavitr beyond his limited four-issue arc.
Other Possible Appearances of Spider-People
There are no other Spider-people explicitly revealed in the trailer. But when a fan asked the Spiderverse team if they could design Japanese Spider-Man for the sequel, writer Phil Lord responded with, “He’s designed!”
Besides this, The Hollywood Reporter also confirmed Issa Rae to be starring as Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman.
On the rooster, we have expected appearances from Spider-UK, Ben Reilly, and Superior Spider-Man (all yet to be announced or cast) and of course, Jake Johnson reprising his role as the disheveled mentor Peter B Parker.
As with the first movie, Across the Spiderverse will have an abundance of Spideys, and I can’t wait to get into it!
