We knew that Spider-Man NWH would be a box office hit. But let’s talk numbers—the movie accounts for 12% of the US box office’s 2021 revenue!
Spider-Man NWH is adding many claims to its name: On its opening weekend itself, the film grossed $260 million and became the second-highest domestic box office opening of all time. This means NWH beat out Avengers: Infinity War.
With all the anticipation of a multiverse, star-studded cast, and ticketing chaos, it is no surprise that NWH has become 2021’s highest-grossing film, and its momentum is only going steady into 2022. But that’s not all! It has already climbed up as the 10th highest-grossing movie in the USA, with predictions stating that it may soon claim the 8th spot.
NWH has hit the big B as well, by becoming the fastest movie to cross the one billion mark during the pandemic and the third-fastest of all time. The last time a movie achieved this milestone in such a manner was 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
Sony is right to keep its hands wrapped tightly around the Spider-Man franchise, as the movie has become the company’s high-grossing film in North America, overtaking Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle.
While all Spider-Man movies, including Maguire and Garfield’s, have been blockbusters, NWH takes the cake with its financial success. I mean, what else do you expect from a movie that boasts of three iconic, fan-loved versions of Spider-Man?
Spidey isn’t just a domestic hit. The friendly neighborhood superhero conquered 15 international markets, and as such, has also taken the title of being the 12th highest-grossing movie of all time worldwide. It is expected to jump to the tenth spot soon!
These achievements would be mind-blowing alone in a pre-COVID world, but it is especially commendable during the pandemic that had all but ruined hopes for cinema and the box office.
But numbers can only say so much—reuniting generations of fans, No Way Home did show us a way back home to a semblance of normalcy and hope during global calamities.
