Audiences will have to wait a bit longer to see Miles and Gwen in action again. Due to reasons undisclosed, Sony has postponed the release of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse to June 2023.
Originally supposed to release in April this year but then pushed to October of 2022, Across the Spider-Verse still has a long way to go before greeting fans.
On April 21, the official Twitter account of the movie tweeted developments in the series’ release dates, calling it “a shift in the multi-verse.”
Across the Spider-Verse was confirmed to have a part two long before, and both dates have been pushed back.
It seems like Sony has removed Part I from its original title. The tweet calls the movie Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and states its release date as June 2, 2023.
The sequel will be called Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Part II and will be released on March 29, 2024.
Hours before the official Twitter account posted the new release dates, co-producer Christopher Miller tweeted that the time would help the team make the movie “great.”
The first look for Across the Spider-Verse was released in December last year. It showed Gwen Stacy asking (luring) Miles to join hands with her. The teaser even takes us through two intricately designed worlds—which everyone is really looking forward to.
Miller even called Across the Spider-Verse “an ambitious sequel” wherein they will take viewers through each universe and give them ample time to soak them in.
The first movie, the 2018 Oscar-winning Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, presented a wholly unique direction by literally creating a multiverse through different styling techniques—3D, noir, manga, animation, and more Spideys came together to save the universe.
Unfortunately, the hyped-up audience will have to wait around eight more months to meet Miles again in Across the Spider-Verse.
