Spider-Man 4 in the MCU: Latest Updates, Cast, Plot Rumors & Release Date

One of the most anticipated films in the MCU is Spider-Man 4, and numerous recent announcements have heightened the anticipation. Spider-Man: No Way Home is the third highest-grossing film in the MCU, making Spider-Man one of Marvel’s most bankable characters.

It should be no surprise that Sony and Marvel Studios are planning a fourth installment. This will most likely address what happened after Doctor Strange magically gave Peter Parker global anonymity after Spider-Man: No Way Home.

On the other hand, Venom: The Last Dance appeared to confirm that a fragment of the Venom symbiote has indeed persisted in the MCU’s Earth-616. With Spider-Man being the clear front-runner, this is a blatant hint that the symbiote might be ready to form a bond with an MCU character. However, these details are left up for speculation until Marvel or Sony confirm them. In the interim, several verified Spider-Man 4 details have surfaced.

MCU Spider-Man 4 Release Date Announced: Everything We Know So Far

The July 24, 2026, release date of Spider-Man 4 has been confirmed by Sony. Together with The Fantastic Four: First Steps and the two Multiverse Saga climax films, Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, it thus firmly establishes it in Phase 6 of the Multiverse Saga.

Spider-Man 4 is positioned between the two Avengers films with this release date. Given that Tom Holland’s Peter Parker is expected to play a big part in Avengers: Doomsday, it doesn’t seem likely to pick up where Spider-Man: No Way Home left off.

Spider-Man 4 will also be the first film in the MCU to address the fallout from Avengers: Doomsday due to its placement on the upcoming release schedule. Spider-Man would be in an intriguing position if Avengers: Doomsday followed the pattern of Avengers: Infinity War, and the heroes were defeated by Doctor Doom and whatever plans he may have had for his first appearance as the newest villain in the MCU. The fact that it will probably be a cosmic story rather than a grounded one is a major contributing factor in this respect.

Tom Holland Confirms He Read the Spider-Man 4 Script: What to Expect

In a recent interview with Rich Roll, Tom Holland revealed that he and Zendaya, who play Michael Jackson in the MCU, have read the Spider-Man 4 script. Although the script needs improvement, he says it was generally sufficient to “light a fire” inside him. Here is his entire quote:

“It needs work, but the writers are doing a great job. I read it three weeks ago, and it really lit a fire in me. Zendaya and I sat down, read it together and we at times were bouncing around the living room.”

The project is thrilled to hear this news. There is still time for the writers to make changes before filming starts, even though Tom Holland acknowledges that the script needs improvement in its current form.

Nevertheless, it is encouraging that it sparked such enthusiasm from the two Spider-Man actors, indicating that other Spider-Man fans will find Marvel and Sony’s strategy for the franchise’s future acceptable.

Will Zendaya Return in Spider-Man 4? Latest Updates and Rumors

Tom Holland may have given away a little more than he meant to when he admitted that he read the script with Zendaya. This may be the most recent, albeit admittedly small, instance of Tom Holland spoiling the MCU films in which he appears, a habit that has become a running joke. Although Tom Holland will inevitably play Peter Parker again, Zendaya’s access to the script virtually guarantees that she will also play MJ again.

Spider-Man: No Way Home’s conclusion raised doubts about this possibility. Peter Parker eventually decided to keep Ned and MJ in the dark about his true identity after asking Strange to cast the Runes of Kof-Kol to make everyone forget him.

He did this after realizing they would only complicate and jeopardize their lives if they knew. Since Peter supposedly waved goodbye to two of the most important individuals in his life by choosing to keep them in the dark, it is hard to believe that they will reappear in the upcoming film.

Tom Hardy Hints He Won’t Appear in Spider-Man 4 – But Is a Cameo Still Possible?

Venom by Tom Hardy is typically a rival to Spider-Man, but the two haven’t faced off since their unpopular confrontation in Spider-Man 3. A much more well-known version of the character is Venom by Tom Hardy, which raises the question of when he will meet Spider-Man.

In an interview with AP Entertainment, Hardy was asked if this could happen in Spider-Man 4, and he said: “I’d have the script, and I don’t have that.”

Hardy’s answer suggests this won’t occur, but it’s not a given. The script appears to have only been given to Tom Holland and Zendaya thus far, but Hardy may still have access to it as production is still in its early phases. Venom’s appearance is made possible because the MCU contains a symbiote. In addition, Hardy recently stated that he would accept a fight with Spider-Man if offered.

During an interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Tom Holland disclosed that Spider-Man 4 filming would start in the summer of 2024, saying: “Yeah, next summer – next summer we start shooting, everything’s good to go, we’re nearly there, super exciting. I can’t wait.”

This is a little later than the principal photography date of early 2025 that was previously stated. Nevertheless, this is encouraging for the script’s continued development, which Holland claims “needs work,” it also gives Marvel and Sony more room to cast intriguing new characters like Venom in the MCU’s Spider-Man franchise.

Tom Holland Teases Story Details for Spider-Man 4

After reading the script, Tom Holland shared an intriguing detail about the plot of Spider-Man 4 in a different interview, this time on Good Morning America. Thus far, Spider-Man’s close relationship with his mentor, Tony Stark, and the events that followed his passing have characterized his MCU arc.

Spider-Man 4 will feature a noticeably more mature Peter Parker, now that Aunt May has also passed away and those closest to him have forgotten who he is. According to Holland, Spider-Man 4 will look very different from previous iterations.

Claiming the concept is “crazy” could hint at what’s coming. It appears unlikely that Spider-Man 4 will be the street-level adventure that many had hoped for; instead, it may take place on the Battleworld of Doctor Doom, set in the aftermath of the devastating Avengers: Secret Wars.

This would fit Holland’s description because Battleworld is a patchwork of different universes. However, this multiversal storyline still bears similarities to Spider-Man: No Way Home, which begs the question of what Holland refers to.

Tom Holland Advocates for Miles Morales to Join the MCU

Holland expressed his desire for Miles Morales to join the MCU in the same interview with Rich Roll, where he said he had read the Spider-Man 4 script. Holland has indicated that he would like to assist a younger Morales actor in the same manner that Robert Downey Jr. assisted him in the MCU after Downey Jr. fought for all of Tom Holland’s lines as Spider-Man to remain in Captain America: Civil War. It is unclear whether this will occur in Spider-Man 4. Here is his entire quote:

“If I would be lucky enough to somehow bring Miles Morales into my Spider-Man universe and into the MCU, I’d love to do for a young kid what Downey did for me.”

Fortunately, Spider-Man 4 could be the ideal setting for Miles Morales’ debut. Although Avengers: Doomsday’s plot details are still to come, Peter Parker and Miles Morales collaborated on a significant project in the 2015 Secret Wars comics run, should Doctor Doom emerge from his Battleworld by the film’s conclusion.

Holland’s Miles Morales dreams might soon be realized in Spider-Man 4 or Avengers: Secret Wars. This could be the reason he was initially so thrilled about the script.

About Spider-Man: Homecoming 4

Following the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, where Peter makes the heart-wrenching decision to erase his identity from public memory, he’s left to navigate the world as a true “friendly neighborhood Spider-Man”—without the advanced technology of Stark Industries or the support network of his former allies. This marks a shift toward a more grounded, self-reliant Spider-Man, as Peter tackles new challenges and villains on his own, growing into a seasoned hero while balancing the everyday struggles of his secret identity. With Holland back in action, fans can expect an emotional yet action-packed journey as Peter redefines what it means to be Spider-Man in this new era.
