The party gets roped into trouble in episode 15 of ‘Sousou no Frieren’ titled “Smells Like Trouble.” Sein’s skills are put to the test upon their arrival at a new village. The villagers are cursed, and Stark and Fern fall under the same curse.
Sein and Frieren defeat the source together, and the trust between them grows. However, the trouble doesn’t end there. Stark gets roped into something troublesome. Lord Orgen asks him to pretend to be his dead son for the public.

The party has crossed half the way to Auberst, and they continue moving forward. They need to get to Auberst so Frieren can get her first-class mage certificate, which is required for further travel.

Sein finds out that Fern and Stark have been traveling with Frieren for four and one year, respectively. Sien feels like their party is lacking something – an older woman. They reach a village and find every villager unconscious.
Monsters and demons can curse people, and one of them puts a sleeping curse on the villagers. Humanity does not know much about curses, but priests who practice the Goddesses’ magic can help cure them. Priests are bestowed with the Goddess’s blessing, making them resistant to curses.
Sein determines the curse to be unusual and feels like removing the source will be more effective than curing the curse. Sein has located the monster that has cast the curse, and the party decides to defeat it. However, Stark falls asleep under the curse, Fern following shortly after.
Frieren hides them in a protective barrier, and Sein and Frieren continue their monster hunt. However, Frieren also falls asleep. Sein decides to fight the monster alone, but the monster can reflect attacks.
Sein can only wake up Frieren for five seconds, but that is not enough time to explain the monster’s abilities, which can cause severe damage. Sein remembers Heiter saying he didn’t understand Frieren but decided to trust her because she swore to kill the Demon King.
Sein decides to do the same as Frieren promised to defeat the monster. Frieren wakes up and immediately defeats the monster. Everyone under the curse was saved, and they were grateful. Frieren praises Sein by thanking him and giving him a pat on the head.
The party reaches Vorig, but a noble carriage stops them. A man demands Stark to come to his mansion with him. The man is Lord Orgen, and his son, Wirt, died in battle last month, but no one knows about his death. Stark looks a lot like Wirt, and Orgen wants him to appear as Wirt at a soiree so people think he is alive and well.
Orgen will pay the party if Stark agrees to act as Wirt. Since the party is running low on funds, they agree. Stark learns proper etiquette for the next three months while the rest of the party rests and socializes. Fern is also expected to attend the soiree with Stark, so she must also learn proper etiquette.
Fern and Stark understand each other’s pain. They decide to put their training to good use and dance together. Sein asks if Frieren wants to dance with them, but Frieren chooses to eat cake.
Lord Orgen asks if Stark wants to stay, but Stark reminds him that he cannot replace his son. They part ways on good terms. Frieren is happy to see how much Stark has grown.
