After Xbox’s Adaptive Controller, it was about time Sony brought out its Access Controller to cater to people with physical disability who faced challenges while gaming on the PlayStation 5.
Sony’s Access Controller for the PlayStation 5 is meant for gamers with disabilities. It will feature a unique and customizable design, ensuring gaming is accessible to all.
Recently, Sony announced that the PlayStation 5 Access Controller will release on December 6th, 2023, after nearly five years of development. The MSRP for the controller has been set at USD 89.99. Sony has also mentioned that the prices might vary according to the retailer. The pre-order option is available beginning Friday, July 21st.
The PlayStation 5 Access Controller has a fully customizable joystick and circular keypad. All the buttons are swappable to create a wide range of configurations.
In addition to the base, each kit consists of nineteen button caps of various shapes and sizes and 23 removable tags that players can use to mark which input maps to which command.
The most exciting part is the availability of each button to be mapped to multiple functions. The PS5 Access Controller can store up to 3 different control profiles.
The joystick head and its distance from the base is also customizable. Its position is variable and can be locked in for ease of gameplay. Three different stick caps are available as well.
The base of the controller also features 4 x 3.5mm AUX ports. This is meant for third-party sticks and accessories combined with the Access Controller.
Users also have the option of combining it with other PS5 controllers. Sony mentioned in the release trailer that users can sync up to two PS5 Access Controllers and one PS5 DualSense Wireless Controller to form a single cohesive system.
The Access Controller is flat on a surface and compatible with a standard AMPS patterned mount. The circular shape of the PS5 Access Controller means that it lives up to its name to give truly 360-degree access based on the user’s preference.
This will be an exciting addition to the PlayStation 5 gaming environment and help those with a physical disability. Sony ensures that physical disability does not get in the way of truly enjoying a game.
