Once a symbiote bonds with its host, it is quite hard to get rid of it. But we wouldn’t have it any other way, because Venom is returning for a threequel!
During the studio’s CinemaCon panel, along with other big reveals, Sony Pictures officially announced that Venom 3 is in the works.
As Sony often maintains a low profile for its superhero films till they’re well into their post-production stages, nothing more about the third film was revealed during the panel.
The previous films followed Tom Hardy’s character Eddie Brock, who becomes the host to the symbiote Venom.
Marvel fans have clearly taken a liking to the character over time, so the threequel’s announcement doesn’t come as a surprise.
Both Venom and Venom: Let There Be Carnage proved to be box-office hits. Venom brought in a total of $856 million from international markets, whereas Venom: Let There Be Carnage earned $502 million worldwide, despite debuting in the midst of the pandemic.
At the end of the second film, Eddie and Venom are on a relaxing vacation, only to be interrupted by a multiversal error as they watch J. Jonah Jameson reveal Peter Parker’s identity as Spider-Man on live TV.
The anti-hero was also teased in the mid-credit scenes of Spider-Man: No Way Home. As Eddie is drinking at a bar and confused about how he got there, he’s swept back into his own universe as Doctor Strange patches things up, but not before Venom leaves a tiny part of the symbiote behind.
It’s all a temporary fix. As the Doctor Strange sequel will embrace the concept of the multiverse like never before, fans can only speculate on where the story can go next.
Hardy is expected to return. However, no cast or crew has officially been announced. Considering that Venom 3 is currently in its pre-production stage, fans can expect it to come out sometime in 2024.
This is yet another step in Sony’s plans to expand its Marvel property.
With projects like Kraven the Hunter, Madame Web, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, and the newly announced El Muerto, the upcoming years will be a feast for Spidey fans.
About Venom: Let There Be Carnage
Venom: Let There Be Carnage is an upcoming American superhero film directed by Andy Serkis. A sequel to 2018’s Venom, it is based on the Marvel Character of the same name. Tom Hardy will be reprising his role as journalist Eddie Brock/ Venom and newcomer Woody Harrelson will play psychotic serial killer Cletus Kasady/ Carnage, in the second installment. Further cast includes Michelle Williams, Reid Scott, and Naomie Harris.
Venom ended with the symbiote destroying Carlton Drake, the symbiote Riot, and the Life Foundation’s spaceship. Thus the world was saved. In a mid-credits scene, Brock was invited to interview incarcerated serial killer Cletus Kasady, who promised “carnage” when he escaped. This was Woody Harrelson’s Carnage reference.
Now, the trailer for Venom: Let There Be Carnage teased the appearance of another symbiote Toxin through his host, Patrick Mulligan.
