Sony has dropped a new clip from its upcoming Uncharted film featuring Tom Holland, and even though he can’t use his “Peter Tingle” here, he has some pretty sick moves.
Fresh off the Spider-Man: No Way Home success, Holland dropped by at Sony’s CES press conference, where he and chairman Tom Rothman revealed a new preview clip of Uncharted.
The clip shows Holland’s character, Nathan Drake, in a race against gravity as he tries not to fall off a cargo plane while fighting bad guys led by Tati Gabrielle’s Braddock onboard.
Nate has to act quick on his feet, and he lets loose the cargo in an attempt to have one over the villains who have crowded the aircraft. This ends up with Nate himself being dragged out of the plane when his foot gets stuck as he tries to get back onto the cargo.
At one point, Nate is also heard yelling “oh crap” as he tries to get back in, only to be pushed out again when a car dives out, crashing into him.
The car in question is driven by Sophia Taylor Ali’s Chloe Frazer, who bears the closest resemblance to her video game counterpart. The clip ends with Nate free-falling down towards the earth.
Fans of the video games might get a déjà vu with this scene as it looks pretty similar to one of the most iconic sequences from the Uncharted 3 game, except they’re over a waterbody instead of the desert.
Mark Wahlberg’s Victor ‘Sully’ Sullivan is also seen at the beginning of the clip as he makes a cool exit and glides away with a parachute.
This thrilling clip, along with the previously released trailers, guarantees that video game fans will not be disappointed when the film premieres next month.
During the press conference, while talking about the film, Holland said,
We created a film that has a lot of heart, that pays respect to the games, but also gives fans and people that love the games something new and something refreshing. It’s interesting in these big action movies. I often find that the heart and soul of the movie can be lost in the action.
But what’s so nice about our movie is you have this very tangible relationship between Nate and Sully, which is really the heart of the movie. It’s about a young orphan looking for his family and in turn finding a family in the most sort of unorthodox way.
After being stuck in development hell for what seemed to be an eternity (since 2009, to be precise), Uncharted finally brings the video game characters to life. The only major character missing in the clip was Antonio Banderas’ Moncada.
The film is going to be an origin story/prequel that will show how Nate became an adventurer with Sully and hopefully set up many more installments in the future.
Ruben Fleischer’s Uncharted arrives exclusively in theaters on February 18, 2022.
