It has already been over a year since the trailer of the Sony Pictures film Morbius was released. The film had wrapped its filming as production back in 2019 and was scheduled to be released into the theatres in July 2020.
But then COVID19 happened, and the theatres had to be closed. Naturally, the release dates of many films were pushed forward, including Morbius. The film was then pushed and slated to be released on March 19, 2021.
However, the release date of the vampire-flick, Morbius, is postponed yet again, which is by seven months. Sony Pictures has elected October 8, 2021, as the newest release date.
The move was probably influenced by the pandemic and the fact that the theatres aren’t working to their full capacity. Sony has most likely postponed the film in hopes of releasing the film into the theatres.
The film stars Jared Leto as Dr. Michael Morbius, a scientist trying to treat himself for a mysterious blood disease. But of course, no story works without a conflict.
As he tries to treat himself, Morbius somehow infects himself with Vampirism. That’s right. He found a way to become a vampire (even though he didn’t want to. Plus the result wasn’t precisely Damon Salvatore-ish (which is sad)).
*Ahem* Anyways,
Morbius is connected to the Spider-man universe, making it the first film which links Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters with the Marvel Cinematic Universe of Disney.
Micheal Keaton, who played The Vulture in Spider-Man Homecoming, also appears in Morbius, most probably reviving his character.
Apart from that, street signs that called Spider-Man a murderer were seen in the trailer, referencing how Spiderman was framed in Spider-Man: Far From Home back in 2019.
Both the details are enough for fans to believe that the film links both the Universes, opening many possibilities of future crossovers.
But whatever it may be, the fans will have to wait for seven more months to watch Morbius (most probably in theatres) on October 8, 2021.
