Solo Leveling Season 2 Episode 3: Anime Vs. Manhwa

Solo Leveling Season 2 Episode 3 has dropped, and it has done, and it has brought together everything fans needed from the series: breathtaking fights, more leveling up, and the potential for something huge coming up. Jin-woo has gathered two of the items needed to craft the elixir for his mother and has made much progress in the Demon Castle dungeon. We also got to see the much-awaited reveal of Jin-woo’s father.

While the Solo Leveling studios, A-1 Pictures, has certainly done a great job in animating the manhwa, it is still worth noticing the differences between the anime and the manhwa. In this article, we will highlight the difference between the anime and the manhwa and what implications these differences have concerning the progress of the anime.

Baek Yoon-ho Was Cut Out

The initial part of episode 3 of Solo Leveling Season 2 was animated from chapter 56 of the manhwa. The anime featured the scene where Jin-woo and Yoo Jin-ho were bonding over their drinks. However, this wasn’t followed up by the scene where Baek Yooh-ho made a very important phone call regarding the ants in Jeju Island, which was the foreshadowing of the upcoming arc.

The scene showed Baek Yooh-ho on a phone call with Min Byung-Gyu, who revealed to him that the threat of the ants in Jeju Island was no longer restricted to just the island, as a mutation developed within the ants caused them to have wings, with which they could potentially travel to different places. This is very much possible since the corpse of a giant ant with wings was spotted on the shores of Japan.

Yoo Jin-ho’s Meeting With His Father Was Very Different in The Anime

Right after Jin-woo entered the Demon Castle, the scene switched to Yoo Jin-ho having a meeting with his father, where he submitted his Guild Master’s license and accomplishments and asked his father to hand the guild over to him. The manga portrayed his father to be a more manipulative and cautious guy in this scene, as he brought in a hunter named Myunghwan, who happened to be one of the survivors of the Red Gate incident.

Yoo Jin-ho’s father wanted to point out the fact that he knew that Jin-woo was hiding his powers and that he had a huge role in the Red Gate incident, and Myunghwan was witness to this. He insinuated that Jin-ho having so much ease in his accomplishments was likely thanks to Jin-woo, so he asked him to have Jin-woo join their guild. The anime, too, followed a similar path, however, Jin-ho’s father was far more straightforward and polite, and Myunghwan didn’t make an appearance in the scene.

Cha Hae-In Paid A Surprise Appearance

Episode 3 of Solo Leveling season 2 had a completely original scene featuring Cha Hae-In stepping outside a swimming pool in a swimsuit. There were multiple women around who admired her for her looks, so its hard to say this scene served any particular role other than fan service.

Cha Hae-In was immersed in thought as she recollected her conversation with Choi Jong-In when she asked him why he wasn’t willing to disclose the information about the winged ants from Jeju Island. To this, he responded by saying that revealing that information to the public would only cause unnecessary panic and that it was their job as the hunter association to build their forces up in order to face the imminent threat.

We can consider this scene to be a replacement for Baek Yoon-ho’s phone call scene, as the giant ant risk was revealed to viewers in this way. While the reason for this additional scene isn’t entirely known, one could speculate that it was considered a better alternative due to the fan service offered.
