The Star Wars brand may have been Disney’s gateway into the digital streaming world, but there are still a few stars missing from this galaxy. Solo: A Star Wars Story remained suspiciously absent from Disney Plus this Star Wars Day.
Any attempt to stream the Star Wars story was met with a message saying that the film is unavailable “due to existing agreements.” Here’s all you need to know about this mysterious phenomenon.
Why is ‘Solo’ not on Disney Plus?
Now, although Disney bought Lucasfilm a couple of years ago, it still needed to borrow the services of streaming platforms once the latest Star Wars films left the theatres.
The contracts it signed with these platforms, including Netflix, were still valid at the time of the launch of its very own service Disney+.
The streaming rights for these particular films, including Solo: A Star Wars Story, are yet to be transferred back to Disney. Until that happens, Disney+ cannot air these films on its platform.

For those who don’t remember, Solo: A Star Wars Story came out nearly two years ago, in the spring of 2018. But while the whole Star Wars franchise has both landed and expanded on Disney+, Solo still remains missing.
Fans are forced to continue their Netflix subscriptions along with Disney+ if they suddenly want to switch from the Mandalorian’s journey through alternate universes to re-watch the infamous game where Han Solo wins the Millennium Falcon.
When is Solo coming to Disney Plus?
Other examples of films that took their time moving from Netflix to Disney+ include Black Panther (2018). It was only available on Netflix until March 4, which was when it joined the Disney+ lineup.
According to Disney, Solo will also officially be on Disney Plus on July 9, 2020. In the meantime, you can stream it on Netflix, or go ahead with binging Star Wars films and shows already available on the platform.
