Disney Plus’ original movie Sneakerella, starring Chosen Jacobs and Lexi Underwood, finally has a release date, a trailer, and an official mesmerizing poster.
The musical comedy attempts to spin the classic fairytale from multiple angles. The original was first announced on Disney Plus Day, calling it “a vibrant, modern approach.”
The trailer shows our lead El (Chosen Jacobs), being mesmerized by the sneaker collection in front of him.
In place of the stepsisters and evil stepmother, he has his father scolding him to focus his attention on their family-owned business, then dream on his own.
We’re also shown the bouts of immense creativity El has. Making blank canvases into a masterpiece, El is drawn to the basketball legend and sneaker tycoon Darius King’s daughter, Kira King.
Four-time NBA champion John Salley will essay Dariun King’s role, and Lexi Underwood will portray the love interest, Kira.
El meets Kira at a sneaker convention. Before things can hit off the roof, his midnight curfew comes up, and he accidentally leaves his gorgeous DIY sneaker behind.
A refreshing change in the fairy godmother is his best friend, Sami, played by Devyn Nekoda.

Sneakerella retains the basics of Cinderella but turns it enough to make it a relevant-in-the-21st-century story.
After Camilla Cabella’s Cinderella was reviewed as a trying-too-hard movie in terms of its messaging, it remains to be seen how Sneakerella would fare in the fairytale redemption game.
Sneakerella will officially release on the platform on February 18, 2022.
