In less than two years of its worldwide release, Arknights has cemented itself as one of the kings of smartphone gacha.
The game takes place in a dystopian post-apocalyptic future of the planet Terra, where people exhibit characteristics of animals and mythological creatures. Due to natural disasters, a highly infectious disease, Oripathy spreads around, causing havoc, leading to a situation much like our world, but on steroids.
Smartphone tower defense game Arknights will be getting an anime adaptation. Season 1, titled “Prelude to Dawn,” will be produced at Studio Yostar Pictures.
The official Twitter account for Arknights released a promotional video with the announcement.
The PV features a conversation between Amiya and the Doctor after an ambush. We see very distorted visuals, possibly from the Doctor’s perspective, who is the game’s main character.
Yostar Pictures had previously released a nine-minute anime short about the game to commemorate the game’s first anniversary, which sparked the demand for a full adaptation.
This PV has sent the fans of the game into a frenzy due to the Doctor possibly being female. Despite being the protagonist of the game, we know almost nothing about the doctor except his extensive knowledge about Oripathy.
Along with the core gameplay, the game is often praised for its extensive lore and world-building. The producers seem to be very confident in the anime, as it is advertised as the first season.
Once a game gets as popular as Arknights, an anime is almost inevitable. It’s only a matter of time till Genshin Impact jumps on the bandwagon.
